I think we have a lot more to worry about when our government can elicit bribes in the form of censorship.
But this particular instance won’t affect Trek but capitalism ruins everything, eventually.
Capitalism has already ruined trek like 4 times.

The bribe was the settlement payout. The censorship is just a bonus.
If anything, it could greatly help combat censorism.

you can't tell me that the cancelation isn't related to the $16m payout to Trump and the Paramount sale.
I just hope the next 10 months Colbert goes hard on Trump.

I kinda wish that I still had a Paramount+ subscription to cancel over this, but I think my previous reason for cancelling, that it sucks ass, is still valid too

I’m still mad that they weren’t content with making a new and bad Star Trek show but tried to retroactively drag TNG into the abyss
Honestly? Mediocrity. It had maybe two things. I just waited for the dvds to drop and borrowed ST from the library.
In an ideal future, Paramount goes under, sells the IP to someone who actually cares about it. Can't say it's likely, but one can dream.
Maybe now we’ll get Captain Seven of Nine just that now she will rejoin the Borg and the show will explain how good it is to be Borg
I just watched strange new worlds season 1 and was about to pull the trigger on paramount+. Not going to happen now.

I'm not a Paramount subscriber but was thinking of getting it to watch Picard. Now I'll just wait til there's a free 30-day trial, or til they put it on Netflix or whatever.
Picard plots were pretty weak.
But strange new worlds is really really good. The plot, the acting, photography, direction, everything. They even had a crossover with lower decks which is another series, they're hilarious!
PP is basically the Strange New Worlds app for me now.
Sub for a month, whenever the new SNW series is almost finished.

Too much trouble, I'm in no hurry.
Don't have to stress about high seas if you have a browser and an ad block sail the Grey seas and check out the streaming other sites.
Trek is dead. It's legacy will be what it inspires in us.

SNW is the least bad but it still blows compared to anything pre-2009.

Well said.
I'm not particularly sad that Colbert is canceled as he really grated on me during the pandemic series with the incredible sense of requiring attention, to the point his wife was involved as an audience. The reason for canceling him, however, is definitely a bullshit excuse for bending over to pay the Taco Tax.
Maybe that's why they made the Section 31 movie.
