"We need to stop trusting the experts," Kennedy told Tucker Carlson.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared on the latest episode of Tucker Carlson’s podcast on Monday and it’s filled with the ramblings of a man completely detached from reality.

Kennedy falsely suggested vaccines cause autism, more or less endorsed the idea that Anthony Fauci should go to prison, and says that AI will allow the FDA to approve new drugs very quickly. It’s quite a mess.

These absolutely unhinged ideas wouldn’t be such a problem if this were any other fringe lunatic appearing on the podcast of a racist former Fox News host. But Kennedy happens to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services, a man who’s been given enormous power over America’s entire healthcare system thanks to Donald Trump.

Tell me you don't know how AI works without telling me you don't know how AI or drug testing works.

Republicans: "The vaccines were approved too quickly—they're not safe!"

Also Republicans:

Sidenote: the vaccines were based on research that had been worked on for decades.

I believe that RFK jnr is clearly far far far smarter than the average multibillion dollar international pharmaceutical giant employed specialists. (sarcasm).

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

RFK is the Right's idea of an intelligent person.

So far I haven't seen AI that can affect real world physical objects which is a significant part of testing. I have a few guesses... Either he has a bunch of pull-shit he wants to sell that would never be FDA approved, he took a lot of money from AI companies, he thinks that AI these is like Star Trek and shit, or he's a fucking idiot. My guess is that it's a combination of all of these.

Depends if the AI is LLMs or task specific protein folding. How AI Revolutionized Protein Science, but Didn’t End It

If you forget for a second about all the deaths and suffering this ghoul is responsible for, you have to admit this is very funny

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago

Ghoul is the correct term.

I'm sorry, he wants to trust algorithms known to make shit up, over scientists who get paid by big pharma to lie? /s

Made Fast, made safe, made effective.

Pick two*.

^*safe is not valid if fast is chosen^

[–] BussyCat@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Sugar pills and saline are decently safe and can be made pretty fast

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds like tictacs and Gatorade.

[–] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 7 hours ago

Am I not supposed to be operating off of those?

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

Suglets are delicious. Especially sprayed with amphetamines.

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I dunno, the Covid vaccine got prioritized and through the process pretty fast.

[–] Bassman1805@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The first mRNA vaccine for covid was synthesized within a month of the national emergency declaration. But there was about a year of trials and approvals before it was allowed to be mass distributed.

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Which is still blindingly fast. It got EUA or emergency use authorization. Most drugs take 5-10y of trials not including the decade+ of basic R+D to reach approval.

A large reason for that speed was other mRNA vaccines in trials safely for a few decades and the adenovirus being in use for other vaccines already.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 2 points 35 minutes ago

other mRNA vaccines in trials safely for a few decades

The Oxford/AstraZeneca adenoviral vaccine has some human testing history, but the mRNA technology had only previously been tested on animals.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Not instantly though. They did the work, they just did it as fast as they possibly could.

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

In vaccine timelines pretty much instant no?

[–] HorikBrun@kbin.earth 17 points 11 hours ago

Every day, I see headlines that make me wonder how The Onion hasn't gone out of business.

I mean, how do you even compete?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

That sentence is everything wrong with the world.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 2 points 9 hours ago

That fucking sentence did it for me. Jesus this can be anymore like a 1984 prequel. Orwell was prescient.

[–] catty@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

I can code this "ai" up for him:

if (drug.name == "ivermectin") {
    drug.approved = true;
}

// hell, even:
drug.approved = (drug.name == "ivermectin")
[–] orionsbelt@midwest.social 15 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

is he attempting to smile or laugh in that photo? it’s so disturbing.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 14 points 11 hours ago

Probably trying to look at a solar eclipse.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Y’know whenever I hear someone talking about the tremendous benefits of turning decision-based processes over to AI, i think to myself, “Self,” i thinks, “that there is one of the stupidest motherfuckers alive today. Or a young programmer.”

[–] psivchaz@reddthat.com 1 points 6 hours ago

Okay but hear me out: We replace the entire executive branch of the US government with AI. It'll be roughly as prone to making shit up as the people in charge already are, but since it's trained on data sets made by people it'll probably act more in line with what people actually want.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago

Can confirm. One of those programmers is in my team.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 6 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Someone who clearly brushes his teeth once a month at most.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago

And never flosses.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 10 hours ago
[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Well a whole new genre of potential apocalypses has been unlocked then

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 11 hours ago

What could possibly go wrong?! 😳
