The utterly simplistic language of it all. πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

"in a big way", "it will be your win"

It's ridiculous

Too many MAGA assholes and bootlickers out there, good for Canada and Spain to show them the middle finger

[–] C1pher@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Translation: "Thanks to your stupid politics, you managed to pull EU closer and finally decide on things for Greater good."

This make me feels somewhat awkward.

My sense at this point is that grotesque flattery works on Trump, but only to a point. Trump doesn't really like anyone, the best you can do is a slightly-better-than-neutral relationship. (And at the other end he's willing to coexist with anyone who hasn't personally slighted him, like Kim Jong Un)

Career politicians doing what they do best, kissing their boss ass.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Anyone else remember when libs were fearmongering that Trump will leave NATO and leftists said "don't threaten me with a good time"?

I'm not sure what you're getting at.
Liberals are right-wing. Always have been, always will be.

Dutch liberals are not under the progressive umbrella,
so while the Dutch progressive party is advocating to stop the war,
Dutch liberals are in full support of it.

World leaders have figured out he's functionally a toddler. Starmer and Trudeau took the same approach.

[–] Tenderizer78@lemmy.ml 32 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Does Trump not realize that this message makes himself look bad?

[–] martin4598@lemm.ee 28 points 2 days ago (3 children)

No. The message here is "look at how IΒ΄m having my dick sucked"

I mean, he also paints himself orange and thinks it's hot...

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

the one looking bad is the one kissing his ass, he is pretty much saying "look at your secretary general kissing my ass πŸ˜‚ "

[–] cornshark@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

How does it make him look bad?

Real tweet, fake text... no way any NATO leader would say "Europe is going to pay BIG" it's just too Trump. Same with the incessant comma splices.

But big congrats to Trump for ruining the information space so completely that I genuinely cannot tell what's real anymore.

[–] folaht@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This is Mark Rutte.
He would totally say β€œEurope is going to pay in a BIG way” to flatter Trump.
Incessant comma splices is I guess typically Dutch and indicative to the way Rutte talks. I sometimes do it too.
He's a liberal, making him almost as right-wing as Ursula von der Leyen, not a social democrat
or a democratic socialist or left of that.

[–] SGforce@lemmy.ca 52 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I'm sure EVERY European politician randomly CAPITALISES words like some LUNATIC

[–] folaht@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago

It's Mark Rutte. He certainly would write it like this.

Hasn't Rutte always been known for being able to handle Trump well? I'm pretty sure the only way to do that is kiss his ass in a way he understands, so this doesn't seem too surprising.

Communication is most effective in the language of receiver. Rutte emulates Trump like ChatGPT.

[–] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 56 points 3 days ago (2 children)

This is so poorly written I have no idea if it's sarcasm or not.

[–] bigboismith@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

It's written in a way for Trump to understand

[–] Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Eh, looks like rutte writes English in the same way that he speaks it. Honestly I first thought that it was a shitpost, but no, it seems legit.

I’ve have said this before but WW3 will start because of a meme or ChatGPT.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 40 points 3 days ago

By the way Rutte changed the wording in the agreement to be more vague as to what 'allies' means because Spain refused to agree to 5%.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 3 days ago (20 children)

obviously, I doubt Rutte was expecting this message to be shared. If he wasn't a complete moron and actually doing this just to stroke his own ego, I'd actually give Donald props for leaking it, as Rutte kissing Donald's ass makes him look terrible, and more broadly makes the European parts of NATO look terrible.

I imagine Rutte's intent is to stroke Trump's ego to try and keep him interested in NATO, but I feel like that's a fool's errand. Trump doesn't give a shit about anyone else but himself. This new agreement, with NATO signatories needing to commit 5% of their GDP, feels like a grift for the benefit of U.S. defense contractors. The U.S. cannot be trusted to actually honor their agreements anymore, so why pay more into their alliance? Is Europe really that scared of further Russian aggression?
