Army Sgt. Ayssac Correa had just started his day at the 103rd Quartermaster Company outside of Houston on the morning of March 13 when he got a phone call from his sister-in-law.
She worked at the same company as Correa’s wife and had just pulled into the parking lot to see three ICE agents handcuffing her.
“They’re taking Shirly away!” she told him.
Imagine getting that call. We've definitely become evil.
My wife is Mexican-American. She was born here, and I fear that call. ICE is rounding up everyone that they “suspect” is undocumented. I’m afraid that she’ll get picked up and lost in the system before I can bring proof of citizenship.
What ICE is doing is evil. I can’t believe this is my country after only a few months, and I fear what will happen in a few years.

i had family members that were born and raised in this country and deported during the last bought of xenophobia that this country went through during ww2; the most recent one ended up living out the rest of his life and dying in mexico.
It's not we that have become evil. I think it's imperative that people properly consider who is doing the evil shit.
Many years ago I was visiting some country in Central America, and they were not angry that I was American even though the American government had done horrible things to their country, because they knew that I had no control over what those crazy motherfuckers did.
And that doesn't mean that everyone is powerless, that we shouldn't try to make a difference. That's a different conversation.

Odds are pretty good giving that he's in the military. The Latino people I know who were ex military are Trump 100%.

the issue was already personal, pitting service against citizenship
For the record, no, it's pitting unconstitutional orders against sworn duty.
I don't want the military to decide any outcomes, but I do think just about time they let everyone involved know that the military's only loyalty is to the people and the constitution. Yes, they take orders from the president, but we have checks and balances for a reason, and I'd feel better if the military just stated plainly their primary goal is to keep it that way.
While that would be nice, this would potentially make Trump try to purge "non-loyal" officers even harder.
This is why such a revolution doesn't start from the masses, but from someone higher up who gives the command and then people follow them.
If a lowly soldier disobeys, he's removed. And grass-roots doesn't work for that kind of stuff.
Trump has been getting rid of higher ups, they aren't protected.
That makes everything pretty difficult.
What generally triggers military coups is that one of these higher-ups rebels when or after they are removed.
But yeah, there's a time window for that and it's closing rapidly.
There won't be a rebellion by the people. There hardly can be one, without a rebellion by the military.

Anything to make Trump's dismantlement of democracy even just a tiny bit harder is a good thing.
My fear is that it would make it easier, by singling out who needs to be purged.
If they stay compliment with Trump, they won't need to be purged anyways as they are complient at that point.
If they pick the right moment to resist, they can at least tie up lawyers and/or millitarty personnel up with court marshalls, spending money, resources, and manpower to keep them in military prison, ect.
And besides that, its literally in their oath to disobey unlawful orders, so if something is blatently unconstitutional and immoral I would expect every good soldier to follow their oath rather than their orders.
I don't disagree with any of this, but it's kind of precisely why coming out and saying what teawrecks wants them to say before that right moment is foolhardy at best imo.
In other words, your saying that they should keep a low profile until the moment they need to disobey? Makes sense.

And they have a baby only 10 months old!! My baby is a little bit older but still, can't imagine if something like that just came and split us, it would be very traumatic for everyone.
And if Trump has his way, that baby will someday get deported too. The dad should be glad the baby wasn't with mom when they kidnapped her. They might have taken the baby too.
