I'm seeing the same front page for days, how can I go about changing what I'm seeing to see more active threads or is it just dead in my subscribed communities?

I've noticed my feed can look stagnant if I go by the default, which is Local and Active. I instead set it to Subscribed and New

On Reddit, New wasn't the best since posts were made so quick and a lot of them were low-effort, but at least in the communities I'm subbed to, posts are generally made slower, but are higher quality, making sorting by new valid.

What I did early on was set the feed to all. As I found items of interest I would subscribe. There are new communities being created every day. There's always something new to see.

Sort content by new? instead of hot or trending.

[-] Carnelian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

For me hot is actually totally different like every 10 minutes lol

Active sort shows me the same posts for a few days

But top 6 hours or top 12 hours is probably what OP wants to use

If you set in your profile settings "hide read posts" and then vote/click on each post you see you get only new posts

My Lemmy bookmark is the URL with the home feed set to sorting by new. Perhaps they should tweak how the active sorting works to de-prioritize old posts, but for now setting it to new works for me.

you can in your settings under sort type

Very useful information. Thank you sir.

Edit: For some reason I can't get this setting to save.

You could turn off "show read posts" and make sure you are going in to every post you have seen to hide them, but that has some weird quirks when viewing your own profile.

[-] sachasage@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I do wish that function would have a profile exception

[-] _spiffy@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

I agree. I feel like a hide button for posts would be a good idea as well then I don't have to click into them.

Sorting by NewComments gives you a good mix of both new posts and posts with activity. And changes constantly.

Sort by 'hot'

...but this isn't the comm for that type of questions, post in support comms

[-] Flyingdutchguy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Active is trash, definitely set to Hot. Or new if you've finished all that.

And set all instead of local

[-] scuczu@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

appreciate the tips, already helps.

Add more communities to your subscription list, and view by subscribed»new.

[-] brickfrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Set your Sort to new. I have mine set to Subscribed and New.

You could also do All and New to see everything coming into your Lemmy instance.

[-] pgetsos@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

(On Kbin) my Hot front page is 70% different every 10-15 minutes

[-] PenguinJuice@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Same, this must be a Lemmy thing. Kbin seems to perform better in a lot of ways.
