"An immigration judge ruled on Tuesday that the Trump administration has until 5pm on Wednesday to present evidence as to why Mahmoud Khalil, the Palestinian activist and Columbia University graduate, should be deported. She said that if the evidence does not support deportation, she may rule on Friday on his release from immigration detention."

SCOTUS

US Supreme Court pauses order requiring return of deported man

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 19 points 1 week ago

Or else what? I'm fully expecting they'll deport him anyway before then.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Surprise! He's just gonna be deported before the deadline.

Good news I suppose, but court rulings are mostly moot, because everything gets emergency-docketed to the Supreme Court, where justice goes to die.

It's okay, make the Republican DoJ go crying to the SCROTUS every time and make the judges put their name beside every mockery they make of justice and the rule of law.

History books outside the US (and within if it survives this) will tell of all the important characters, Trump, his yes-men, Musk, Roberts et al., Mike Johnson and the 200-odd house (R) Reps, Mitch McConnell and 50-odd (R) senators, the 10 (D) Senators that wasted the perfect opportunity to stop them, the many (D) reps that cared more for decorum than democracy, the billionaires and corporations, rightwing media, Russian psyops and the sanewashing media owned by billionaires, Biden, Harris and Obama doing little to stop the rise of culture war and fascism, and lastly and definitely not least, half the American voting population for being dumb enough to fall for ultimately the most transparent con. These are the characters of the World History chapter titled: What the Fuck Went Wrong?

There's plenty of information like this about world war 2; it's only consumed by intellectuals and widely (and willfully) ignored by the general (voting) public who decry anyone trying to educate them as elitists, tankies or libtards.

This pattern will be repeated again if this same system continues to survive in it's current form.

Yeah even if America makes it through, give it 70-80 years... if I'm even around then I'll go telling people that fascism can get in government again and again if people don't stop it.

80 years is about right for people to start noticing that things are better outside the country and then there will probably be another new-deal like welfare state to keep the rat race going along further.

Cause we felt like it lolololol

The judge will furrow their brow, let out a guffaw, bang their gavel, and then give Trump 3 months to write a nice haiku about how sorry he is.

None of these headlines or judges have brought Mahmoud back and I've lost hope that they ever will.
