I always laugh to myself when I see someone's American communism vexillology art project, and they all look like this:

Deeply unserious nonsense. A "communist" America that still venerates the 13 original colonies by including the 13 stripes on the flag would be a deeply revisionist communist movement, which would be most movements if I'm being honest.

To look at American history, who its revolution was fought for, and think "Yes, these 13 colonies should continue to be represented in our revolutionary banner" is pure delusion. The foundation on which this country was constructed is rotten. Its mythology is only a means to prop up the decaying framework on which the walls of capital are hung. From those 13 colonies sprung forth waves of genocide and exploitation that America then exported across the world.

I do not believe a communist program should include the total dissolution of the United States, but instead believe that any communist revolution would lead to the total dissolution of the United States. The country would Balkanize along ideological and geographical lines, and the world would be better for it.

the masks are interesting. Are they scared? Do they think someone is going to leak their names and addresses or something?

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

I think they are afraid of exactly that, getting their names and addresses doxed.

I think in this case a gun would just get you killed.

Definitely important to know how to use them comfortably and even have one at home but I don't think a gun is gonna help when you get swarmed by feds on your own.

If a group got together and organized armed volunteer defense groups that patrolled areas most at risk, that could deter individual kidnappings, but knowing where they will strike is challenging even if you had people organized in the area already.

It would definitely be a worthwhile organizing project, along with other decolonization/survival programs.

Even when organized into a small commune, the feds will just raid and/or bomb you if they want you enough. But it is a lot more work for them, so this would be an escalation that overall works in our favor over time.

What we really need is entire communities ejecting feds and dearresting. But that requires a much greater level of organization.

Yes it's true, robust and widespread organizing is the only potentially successful strategy. Another user pointed out that even having a registered firearm and being associated with anti Zionism or whatever else they don't like could put a target on you. I am strongly in favor of being armed in the US but under the current climate, it could invite extra scrutiny and/or surveillance

[–] Sulv@hexbear.net 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would simply acquire a non-registered firearm

Don't joke about this comrade

In all cases a gun would get you killed. Hell, even having a registered firearm could lead the state to kick your door in, guns drawn when they come and arrest you for retweeting a Macklemore post about "free Palestine". All it takes is one trigger happy douche to come in guns blazing because they were big scared of a 20 year old Palestinian on a green card who rides a fixie to campus

At this point shooting back without some sort of organization would lead to real life five stars in GTA

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah you're probably right. They've shown they will do anything it get away with it. Organizing is really the only solution

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not to be all negative, but we are back to square one. Nothing meaningful will happen in the movement in our lifetime. All we can do is try to get people to see it our way and then maybe when we're old, they'll come cut our heads off with broadswords because they perceive what we have going on as "too right wing".

I'd love to be taken out in a revolution by some whippersnappers who think I'm The Man™

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Depends on the movement, I reckon. The fascist movement is going to force the US to be destroyed, and if the left can organize in anticipation of that, there will be a chance to create strongholds and build new societies in the balkanized aftermath. Either way, as that happens, the the global south will blossom with the imperialists absent.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I appreciate the optimism, but even "progressive" libs are still punching left because somehow all 145 of us caused them to lose the election. They have zero self reflection, so I anticipate at least another generation before there's enough groundwork to strike. I don't think we have that much time.

you're talking about some people on twitter.
