Summary:

President Donald Trump is demanding a “full throated apology” from Maine Gov. Janet Mills in his spat with the state over transgender athletes, implying his administration will continue to target the state unless he gets one.

The Democratic governor got into an argument with the president during a governors’ meeting at the White House in February, telling the president “we’ll see you in court” when he threatened to pull federal funding from the state if it failed to comply with his order to ban trans athletes from playing in women’s and girls sports.

His administration subsequently opened overlapping investigations into Maine, including probes launched by the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services and Agriculture.

The president in a Saturday morning Truth Social post demanded Mills deliver a “full throated apology” for her earlier comments and promise to never pose a “challenge” to the federal government again.

“While the State of Maine has apologized for their Governor’s strong, but totally incorrect, statement about men playing in women’s sports while at the White House House Governor’s Conference, we have not heard from the Governor herself, and she is the one that matters in such cases,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, we need a full throated apology from the Governor herself, and a statement that she will never make such an unlawful challenge to the Federal Government again, before this case can be settled.”

It was not clear what apology from the state of Maine he was referencing, or what apparent case was being settled. The White House declined to comment on the president’s post or clarify what consequences the governor and her state could face for not apologizing.

Let’s get this straight:

The president of America- publicly threatened a state governor, and it’s on record.

When exactly is the military going to roll up on the White House to drag this child out by his collar and put him in prison?

[–] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 152 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Never has a bigger bag of shit walked across the land of America. Trump is a disgrace to America and the human race.

[–] skeezix@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well you can thank your fellow countrymen who voted for him and continue to support him. Trump is the symptom not the disease.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Come on, he’s at least part disease.

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I’m pretty sure he’s a 100% disease

[–] darvocet@infosec.pub 21 points 1 day ago

... we know.

[–] Whateley@lemm.ee 37 points 1 day ago

It'd be really awesome if he died choking on a ham sandwich while on the shitter.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorta giving up the illusion of the whole states rights things.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 55 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It was never about state's rights.

The south moaned about the federal government trying to abolish slavery while at the same time begged the government to enforce the fugitive slave act against northern states.

As always, it's about power and oppression.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

"States rights" = "localized tyranny"

Like everything they say, the argument was only made in bad faith.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (5 children)

You seem to have understood every word I said aside from apparently "illusion".

[–] Azal@pawb.social 6 points 1 day ago

I'm usually also following up on States Rights stuff. It's good to do that even with the illusion because when you live in the south, you're in the minority if you don't believe in states rights being the reason for secession.

States rights.... I mean not like that

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If this would have been literally any other President in this country's history, he'd have been impeached before the week's out. Even the most polarized pre-MAGA Republicans wouldn't have put up with that shit. But here we are.

And with that said, there's a non-zero chance that Mills bends the knee. So far, every time there has been an opportunity for Democrats (or anyone else, for that matter) to put up some opposition, they have rolled over and played dead at the slightest whiff of pressure.

We can't risk upsetting the fascists says Democrats.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

she is the one that matters

'that'. Because 'who' would be humanizing and 'that' is for objects.

Also

The White House declined to comment on the president’s post or clarify what consequences the governor and her state could face for not apologizing.

I think we need to find some reporters to ask that question again.

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 2 points 20 hours ago

There are arguments both ways on which is correct. There's plenty to criticize, no need to jump into semantics

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I feel like I only use "who matters" when it's a question? Hard to even provide a proper anecdote because I don't monitor my language that closely. But "that matters" is a natural default but it might be an "ax-ually" type deal.

[–] VeryInterestingTable@lemm.ee 29 points 1 day ago

Orange juice wants to invade other countries while he can't even get control of his own states. And his sugar daddy melon is losing billions everyday.

[–] jaxxed@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He said "fully throated" on purpose

He didn't even write this. You can tell the Difference because of the lack of random Capitalization.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Gotta take it deep.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 36 points 1 day ago

Trump's feeling are HURT because of MEAN WORDS but hes NOT a SNOWFLAKE!

[–] PoopSpiderman@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He’s a very very sensitive president. His tender feelings get bruised quite a bit.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd like to see his tender feelings bruised a lot harder.

[–] PoastRotato@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd like to bruise his tenders

“You didn’t say thank you!”

“You didn’t say sorry!”

This is the kindergarten asshurt bully.

[–] AshMan85@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That is terrorism

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Wait… a probe launched by the DoE? That department he’s essentially shut down? And by HHSA, that department DOGE gutted so it can’t even do the work it’s supposed to be doing?

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Isn't it strange how you can get to be an elected official with that many investigations by the government into you? There is a background check that is extensive and yet for these jokes that is apparently reduced to, "ah yes we see you have an extensive background. jolly good. :) kiss"

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

So, like the same full throat service he delivers for Putin?

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh, fuck off! Trump is the biggest cunt...

EDIT: If Trump wants to deny them federal funding, the state of Maine should stop paying federal taxes.

He's been getting his ass kicked internationally, recently... so he's turning his gaze domestic to take out his anger.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He missed the part where challenging the powers that be is the most American thing you can do. He's butthurt that someone would dare, I said dare say something bad about him

Maine should split off and join Canada.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Trump would be thrilled at the opportunity to send the military in to violently quell a ~~succession~~ secession.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And split the US into two as it fought itself.

Man fuck it, I want to see a full on state sue the shit out of this illiterate skid mark just to annoy it.

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let's see what Susan Collins thinks about this...

Susan Collins is very upset; that is why she has to keep supporting President Mumps' agenda.

Get fucked, Donnie
