It's probably never going to exist anyway. They made these 2 prototypes, but even Elon is saying they won't start manufacturing until 2026. He also prefaced it by saying he has a tendency to overpromise on dates, so they've probably not even started working on it.

This does not exist to sell as a product. It exists to sell stocks.

An automotive engineer explained to me that city buses don't have seat belts because of the speeds they operate make it that the mass of the bus is enough to dampen any frontal impacts from throwing people too far forward. And if you get hit or hit something fast enough to get you off your seat, seat belts won't help, they might even make it harder for you to evacuate.

Coaches? Those go fast and have seatbelts, so idk how well the theory applies.

They mean at the (slow) speeds the buses operate it, probably

Coach buses run faster and so there's a lot more forward acceleration flinging the passengers forward in a crash

There's not even any handles or poles anywhere though. At least on a bus there's lots of things to hold on to in case of sudden momentum changes. Those front seats are going to toss people when doing emergency braking. Now I'm imagining people purposefully forcing this behavior to troll the paying passengers.

Tbh at first I didn't even think of it as a bus type. Is it like an airport people mover? It looks like it will be travelling faster

[-] vegeta1@hexbear.net 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

True. Several problems though like the other poster mentioned no handles. Theres no speaker system, emergency stop, no hammer to break glass in case of emergency, no head rest for the seats in the middle so if there is whiplash it will be narsty work. No signs or instructions of any kind. Steps are not slip proof.

but without Seatbelts who's going to sing the latest composition by Yoko Kanno?

my-hero is such an overcompensating insecure manchild that he actively and deliberately rejects and even removes safety features from anything in his reach. That included yellow caution lines and back-up beeping sounds from industrial vehicles in his bazinga factories.
