It’s actually a really impressive bit of engineering and craft. Making the doors work around the back wheel wells because of the extreme chassis shortening is difficult work.
Also the fuel tank, drive shaft, exhaust, brake lines, and wiring all had to be modified to work too. Even the parking brake would have had to be changed to keep working.

I've seen a couple people with those Smart Fortwos driving around with a big turn key sticking out the back as a joke.
The ones painted like the yellow and orange toy cars make me unreasonably happy.

You think the OP image is AI? How do you figure? (Or maybe my brain just put too much emphasas on the word "without" and you aren't saying the OP image is AI.)
I wasn't implying the image was made with AI. I was telling people they can learn to do this without using AI. I assume this image was made with photoshop, but people who had never seen these before would probably assume it's AI.
If you stick a penny in the back will it do a wheelie, too?

Where's that bottom image from? I can't place it, but if I was a betting man I'd say that's from the flash-forward in the finale of the penultimate season of LOST, when the doctor is back in the real world, popping pills and swigging Jack Daniels.

I used to know someone who drove one almost like this. It was a RAV4 though. He was a swole short stack with bouncy blond curls who was always laughing and flirting and the car fit his personality to a T.
It’s kinda cute. I wouldn’t buy it, but I’d happily borrow it.
