I get along well with my family, but I'm honestly considering voting Kamala just to fuck with them.

would you feel comfortable face-to-face explaining to a Palestinian child why you voted for his extermination?

[-] gueybana@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

do you feel comfortable explaining to a Palestinian child how you’re paying for their extermination?

You think they’ll give a fuck if you said ‘but I didn’t vote for it’?

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Nobody should vote for these genocidal fucks. There is no excuse to vote for genocide.

But when it comes to paying, serious question: Is there any way to avoid having the money I am forced to accrue and produce with my labor stolen from my paycheck and used to murder people? Other than the extremely obvious.

This is not a joke, this is not a bit, this is not attempt to excuse people doing nothing, this is not an attempt to struggle-session with you. I've seriously wondered if I should quit my job and start robbing yuppies for rent money but down that path lies a quick death that achieves ... nothing? of useful strategy.

And maybe the answer is that the most moral and only thing to do is do the obvious and die with our souls pure. But I have a family and I know what the state would do to them -- arrest, interrogate, and torture them to set an example to others. It's not moral but I can't do that to them, they've been put through so much horrible shit at the hands of the US Empire already.

You could always donate money to the Palestinian gofundmes that are floating around like these:

There's so much more you could find at https://gazafunds.com/. And if you think every single one of those gofundmes are scams, there's always the Municipality of Gaza https://gaza-city.ensany.com/campaign/6737 that are trying to raise money for:

  • Water supply enhancement projects
  • Maintenance of water wells
  • Implementation of water desalination initiatives
  • Management of waste collection and disposal systems
  • Reconstruction of roads demolished during war
  • Implementation of sewage water pumping and treatment schemes
  • Execution of pest control and rodent eradication programs
  • Enhance water provisions for residents and maintain consistency.
  • Manage the collection and disposal of accumulated waste throughout the city.
  • Address sewage overflow and sanitation issues across various areas of the city.
  • Initiate the reopening of key thoroughfares to facilitate emergency vehicle access.
  • Clear debris from the cityscape to restore ease of movement for residents.
  • Provide aid to the personnel of the Gaza Municipality Emergency Committee.

To say that our only choice as people living within the imperial core is to either do adventurism, fuck off into the woods, or do absolutely nothing is a ridiculous dichotomy.

From each according to their abilities to each according to their needs.

To say that our only choice as people living within the imperial core is to either do adventurism, fuck off into the woods, or do absolutely nothing is a ridiculous dichotomy.

That's not what I was saying. I was responding to the very narrow framing of american citizens being forced to pay for genocide and saying I don't see how to solve that specific problem.

In any case and more importantly, thank you for linking ways people can actively help. I'd rather my money go toward saving lives than ending them.

I have to eat food, I don't have to vote

[-] gueybana@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That’s fair but if I want to be annoying about this I could go on endless degrees of abstraction.

You’re working an above board job to eat not to pay for the genocide of the Palestinians. Can’t someone vote for non-Gaza related and personal reason? What if they work a government job that depends on which administration is in power? The point is that almost all of us are supporting this genocide one way or another and few are voting Democrat to exterminate Palestinians.

[-] lilypad@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

Just my thoughts, maybe I'm real wrong, but:

Every candidate will be at minimum slightly different than ones platonic ideal candidate, but a vote for them is still a blanket endorsement of their politics and policies. We cannot vote for someone and say "I only support this aspect of their policies", rather, we can only say "I believe that this aspect of their policies outweighs these other aspects." In this hypothetical case of a government worker, that statement becomes "I believe that my continued employment for the government under this future administration outweighs the continuation of the genocide being committed and inflicted upon Palestinians".

It is important to recognize and grapple with the fact that by existing in the US and participating in the social systems of the US we are contributing to this genocide, some of us in small ways some in large; we must critically consider how we can minimize our contribution and how we can actively work against the states actions. However recognition of our being held hostage like this does not justify explicitly supporting genocide. A vote is an explicit act, and is an endorsement of the politics of the person and party being voted for.

This is indistinguishable from vote blue no matter who "Palestine is a single issue" arguments.

[-] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

This is a good point.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 52 points 1 week ago

You can just tell your chud family you voted for her lying is easy

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago

don't forget to tell them about me, the non american from Brazil who sent 50 mail in ballots for kamala via the local embassy

[-] joaomarrom@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Axé, Kamala!

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

I sent in two billion votes for xi-vote

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

america has no choice but embrace xijinping thought

[-] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

I am a Communist, and a Christian. I abhor lying.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Which is worse, lying or actively supporting genocide?

This is not a hard question.

[-] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

and a Christian

Brother unironically you will be committing a grave, grave sin if you vote for someone who is actively sanctioning a genocide and desecration upon the holy lands. Think about it, these are deeply sacred lands for every sect of the abrahamic faiths, yours too! And look at what literal satan and moloch are doing to the rightful keepers of those lands. Please for the sake of your soul its better not to vote for such an incarnation of evil upon earth.

[-] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Yes, I understand your point. I'm not voting Kamala.

[-] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 1 points 6 days ago

God bless, good that you asked at the end of the day. May the invaders be driven out from the holy lands and peace restored to their long suffering inhabitants.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

You should probably do the render unto ceasar thing and just sit this all out, then.

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

spite is also not very christian jesus-cleanse

[-] geese_feces@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

write in Kamala for some position other than pres, then you can say you voted for her and it wouldn't be a lie

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 week ago

You can just lie lol

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

A vote for genocide is an endorsement of genocide. An endorsement of genocide damns one's soul. Everyone who knowingly votes for genocide deserves to go to Hell.

Implicit in this question is the moral calculation that the lives of Palestinians are worth less than triggering your evil relatives. Comrade I know you don't believe that. So don't fall into the trap of acting as if you do.

In light of that, no, absolutely do not vote for Holocaust Harris. If you want to antagonize your shitty chud family members, just vote 3rd PSL and tell them you voted PSL because you want the Communists to win and put your family in gulags so that they can be cleansed of the sin of reaction by experiencing a fraction of the hell that AmeriKKKa has inflicted on the Middle East and Palestine in particular. ~~Or just punch them in their stupid faces? haha, jk... lest? Nay, perish the thought. .... Lest?~~

[-] SexMachineStalin@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

bugs-no

Just tell them Trumpet and KKKamala are both "the fucking devil", then write-in xi-vote

[-] somename@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

“Sorry mom, I need my Xi-bucks.”

[-] enkifish@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Unless you happen to live in swing state, your vote does not matter, and will change nothing. Put whomever makes you feel better down, or just lie. The only thing being affected here is your feelings.

[-] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

I just wanna say that there are lots of good points in this thread.

Legitimately glad I asked.

mario-thumbs-up

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Sorry, I responded b4 seeing you got the point. I'm glad you asked and glad you took the feedback well! This is part of learning and growing, well done heart-sickle

TIRED: harm reduction

WIRED: misery infliction

[-] nothx@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Voting third party would piss them all off even more.

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

I'll vote PSL or Green depending on what's on my ballot, and that will fuck with both my chud family and my "neoliberal centrist" family. If you're going to troll, commit to the bit

[-] Red_Sunshine_Over_Florida@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Isn't this the trap that Matt told us about in his description of how the two parties operate: The Bourgeois electoral system as a competition to see which faction can mobilize it's base of supporters to make the opposing faction's supporters miserable by utilizing the machinery of state.

Basically the temptation to get lost in electoralism by owning the libs/chuds.

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

Are you saying that they wouldn't be just as miserable from you voting for the gommunist PSL?

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Do whatever you want. Electorialism sucks.

[-] micnd90@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

No, you would be unironically supporting genocide just to spite your family members

Write in Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton

[-] rootsbreadandmakka@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

tbh I think people here take voting too seriously, sometimes it feels like electoralism brain but the other way around, as if not voting makes any sort of difference. We're getting Kamala or Trump either way, there's no possible way your vote or non-vote is going to have any effect on policy towards Israel/Palestine. I think you're fine.

[-] anonochronomus@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago
[-] coeliacmccarthy@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

this is the only ok reason to vote for her

[-] Angel@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

You could vote for Trump for the same reason when it comes to angering libs

[-] Chimbus@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Voting doesnt matter

[-] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

of course it is, your vote doesn't matter.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Voting doesn't matter so shrug-outta-hecks ideally you should lie and just say you voted for her when you didn't

[-] M68040@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

I’m of a “not gonna tell you to vote, not gonna tell you not to vote” type posture
