well, I hate to break it to the brain trust in Missouri, but Human H5-type Bird fucking Flu doesn't simply spontaneously develop, there had to have been some sort of animal, either human or non human who passed this virus to the human. bullshit statements like this make me trust the authorities less, and fear the disease more, than if they spent the fucking time tracking it down to it's source, you know, like scientists have been known to do for the last 100 years before MAGAts made scientific knowledge, and protections a political third rail. and the beat goes on .......
"The report marks the 15th human case of an H5-type bird flu infection in the country since 2022. But, the case stands out—and is quickly generating alarm online—because the man reported no contact with animals. All 14 of the previous cases occurred in farmworkers who had contact with either dairy cows or poultry that were known to be infected with H5N1."
I don't think they're necessarily saying it was spontaneous bird flu, it's much easier to determine the animal(s) that gave a farm worker avian flu than testing every animal/person who interacted with someone.
Probably means it's spreading in the community over there from human to human contact. Not good to say the least. I'd say stock up on toilet paper lol.
The article I read mentioned this person has co-morbidities. Presumably, that’s why their symptoms are worse/they even got tested. Perhaps this means that it only weakly infects humans (currently, anyway). Hence the lack of prior detection.
I’m sure we’ll start to see more community cases. Hopefully that won’t translate to the virus mutating further in ways that make it more infectious or harmful.
I think they are suggesting this man developed bird flu with no evidence of interaction between animals. Suggesting a person with bird flu gave him this strain of bird flu.
The big concern with bird flu is that transmission between humans becomes viable. Then it can spread. When it’s confined to birds, only humans that work in chicken farms are going to catch it. When it can spread between humans then we are at risk of a pandemic.
This just raises the alarm that human transmission of bird flu could be happening. Because they haven’t ruled it out yet.
This is on my bingo card!
*no known link to animals.
And no known link to humans. Nothing known about it at all, apparently
Just because they reported no contact with birds doesn't mean that no bird touched them. Simply walking in a park is enough. Leave your sandwich on the bench for a second, and a tit will have grabbed a tiny bite and disappeared within seconds.
Tits could’ve been all over that bench and then they put their sandwich there where the tits had been.
