Bernie and AOC were not making Communism relevant in 2018 lmao

Lots of Bernie supporters would argue that socialism was when government does stuff. But don’t worry. It’s not like Communism where the government controls everything.

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 68 points 2 months ago

Eh, they got me to not automatically hate socialism. And now I'm on here arguing with internet randoms that Cuba, Vietnam, and the USSR are awesome. It's a process.

I think this is probably the true legacy of the Bernie movement. I'd wager that anyone radicalized around 2016 and even many around the 2019/2020 period was influenced in some way by Bernie. Even me, who was already becoming radicalized around then for separate reasons, I know I benefited from Bernie making socialism more acceptable. The whole thing also probably pushed me away from lifestyle anarchism and towards a more principled stance that eventually led to Marxism.

[-] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

I haven't even considered the word 'radicalized' in a while. I didn't feel like heathcare pls, genocide is... le bad!, the dissolution of the US and its middle eastern outpost, war crime trials, trans people are... le good!, unions, trains, cooperating on the fruits of labor, and shit like that was even radical. It's not like people like the current system or the people in charge in the current year - it seems like the layman likes 8 to 10 out of 12 things that a communist would want and change their mind on 1 or 2 by way of simple exposure.

[-] cecinestpasunbot@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

For me radicalization is synonymous with learning to be anti-capitalist and developing class consciousness. Before that most people can’t articulate why we can’t have all the nice things you mentioned.

The only real "progressives" are those that want to progress to communism soviet-heart

I had a nice little chuckle at how poorly the original aged, assuming it was years old. But nope, of course this shitlib was gonna swallow the boot and go full nazi when the party did

Truly one of the worst hives of genocide enthusiasts on Lemmy

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 2 months ago

They're going harder too. Banned one of the only ones still posting articles about it from politics because Biden is not helping the genocide and saying so is misinformation

The problem is that US politics presents a binary choice. The Democrats are providing military aide to Israel while trying to push a ceasefire and getting Hamas 100% on board with the terms until Netanyahu changed them unilaterally.

Meanwhile, Trump thinks Israel is not genociding hard enough and needs to wipe out the Palestinians faster.

Third options don’t exist in American politics. The lone third party candidate that got any traction campaigned on being more pro-Israel than the other two. It’s the reality on the ground in America.

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 76 points 2 months ago

I would simply not vote in favor of genocide

[-] Omegamint@hexbear.net 66 points 2 months ago

I'm not voting for a genocider. Im not sure how many more times I have to type this out coming into the election.

[-] Kolibri@hexbear.net 55 points 2 months ago

It's very misleading to say democrats are trying to push for a ceasefire, when democrats are all on board for continuing supporting Israel and their genocide against Palestine. And why wouldn't they when Israel is pretty much a place that allows the United States to continue to have a foothold in West Asia? To add, Biden who is a democrat, has no problem with what Israel has been doing.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 49 points 2 months ago

Damn, it's almost as if the entire system is fucked up and should be replaced

[-] Venat@hexbear.net 48 points 2 months ago

They're not trying to get a ceasefire. Withholding arms would create one faster than the current status quo.

Your good faith assumption of an ongoing 10 month genocide is not naive but willful and spiteful ignorance.

Fuck off and fuck you

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 45 points 2 months ago

The choice is demonstrably not binary. The very fact that many Americans are refusing to vote for genocide is what made the Democrats gesture towards a ceasefire in the first place. If you fall in line and promise Kamala your vote regardless of any action against the genocide, you are telling the Democrats to keep killing Palestinians because that issue is not important enough to sway you. If you make a racket, protest, and tell as many people as possible not to support the genocide, you are actually providing the Dems with a positive case to abandon support for 'Israel.'

This line of thinking is probably a bit questionable to you, because it's just not consistent with history (if you are familiar) where American imperialist policy continues despite domestic unrest. We'd like to think that our actions to hold politicians accountable are pushing them towards making the world better. But in reality, as long as capital is the driving force behind American Foreign Policy, any capitulations toward the working class are only temporary compromises to be taken away as soon as possible. Divesting away from participating in elections for bourgeois parties is the ideologically consistent move for communists, because participating in them grants legitimacy to a 'democratic' process that is more concerned with absorbing the energy that would go into effecting change, rather than being the vehicle for effecting change. The pressure we exert on the DNC to change course vis a vis 'Israel' is only going to cause, at most, a temporary shift in tactics, while maintaining the strategic focus on ethnic cleansing to secure a future for America's unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Do notice, however, that both analyses give us a very simple prescription: you are, under no circumstances, to vote for a candidate that is giving support to a genocide.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 44 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I would rather literally kill myself than vote for genocide, fuck off. Arms embargo or I walk.

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

Well when our only electoral options are Nazis, what does that tell you about the legitimacy of the US's "democracy"?

[-] TechnoUnionTypeBeat@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago

That's a lot of words to say you support genocide

[-] Tomboymoder@hexbear.net 28 points 2 months ago
[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Let me rephrase those first two lines for you

The democrats are providing military aid to an ethnic cleansing and are content to be 'bullied' by a power that is massively dependent upon them, despite their base wanting them to stop, implying they do this willingly

Meanwhile, the republicans will probably provide more military aid to the same ethnic cleansing, also willingly

Oh what a massive difference there is between the 2 parties I can scarcely recognize them as of the same universe

[-] Cowbee@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago

Why do you believe Democrats are legitimately pursuing a ceasefire, if they know their "version" of a ceasefire won't solve anything and the US benefits massively from supporting Israel?

Both parties are aligned on foreign policy. Both parties are aligned in interest.

[-] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

The Democrats are providing military aide to Israel while trying to push a ceasefire and getting Hamas 100% on board with the terms

By pushing terms like 'the ceasefire is not permanent and we will continue to help Pissrael carry out the genocide against you'? Laughable.

Meanwhile, Trump thinks Israel is not genociding hard enough and needs to wipe out the Palestinians faster

The same applies to the USian Dems, so there's no difference here.

Third options don’t exist in American politics

If we are talking strictly about voting, then you also have the options of not voting or voting third party. You don't lose anything by doing so, even, considering that both parts of your uniparty share the same policies.

[-] m532@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Then there is only one option. Coup their gov.
