painting miniature faces is haaaaard
You eventually get better but it takes foreverrr. Biggest beginner tip is if you can't paint eyes well paint them just black and not white, it'll look better at a distance. Once you feel up to it you can usually do decent eyes with a black > white (slightly smaller, acts as the main tone but keep a little black to outline it) > small dot of black (acts as the iris and pupil) > tiny dot of white (highlight, should be in a corner of the iris like when doing gems). If you want to add a colour do it before the second black step.
For general faces: paint them red first! Humans have lots of red bits under our skin, painting it red and then slowly building up to a flesh tone will make it appear much more natural in the end. If you're doing darker skin tones purple is also a surprisingly good colour to add in to your flesh tone mix for a similar reason.
