Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.

Excretions..?
Milk!
That's a secretion not an excretion.
Are eggs secreted or excreted
Eggs are more complex than either, but chickens only have the one hole to push things out of, so I'd lean towards saying they are excreted.
That's roughly my logic as well
Good catch. 👍
Fun fact: there's a pho place in town that will sell you straight pork blood to eat. It comes in a bucket with a USDA inspection stamp.
yes! dairy and eggs and all the blood and pus that goes with it. look up somatic cell count to learn more. its disgusting, destructive, unnecessary, and horrifically cruel. edit: here's a link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatic_cell_count
I know animal-farming is beyond cruel and disgusting at this point, but I don't know anything about somatic cell count issues. Oh boy...
good on you for not being afraid of new information, even if it's scary. you can tell by the downvotes people think clicking a little downward arrow will keep the cognitive dissonance away for just a moment longer.
Well, I just upvoted your comment above mine, FWIW. :D
Yeah, I'm a weird one in wanting to walk through facts & reality to get to the other side, no matter how bad the news is. Very little harsh news depresses me anymore, maybe because I know what our endgame will be, approximately. We embarked on this path 10-12Kyrs ago when we made the global power grab upon mass-agriculture. But that's a long story, haha.
That said, loads of things these days make me sad, and there's no question that each day's news nowadays is usually a load of heart-break. So I can certainly understand why most folks want to live in more comfortable reality-bubbles than mine.
(not to sound all pretentious or anything XD)
I appreciate your honesty and candidness, and you don't sound pretentious in the least.

The wikipedia page doesn’t go super in depth, but it seems like somatic cell count is just a measurement of how much infectious schmutz is in milk? Why is this concerning?
how much blood and pus would you like in your diet?
About as much as is left over after the pasteurization and filtration the milk I drink goes through I guess. Is there a safe threshold that all commercial milk rests above?
I've had duck blood soup before. It's pretty good.
As a vegetarian i have to agree. Duck blood and tofu hot pot is spectacularly delicious.
I'm not sure how blood is compatible with vegetarianism.
vegetarians still support animal slaughter and the torture involved therein, its a strange position to take.
Sometimes, people just do the best they can.
"Crusader Culture" is the ideology of colonialism. The idea that my way is best, everyone should be doing my thing and anyone who isn't is immoral - is toxic in every community.
Plenty of people have conditions that make protein extra important, and a certain percentage will struggle to get that from only non-animal sources. Plenty of people need or strongly benefit from a ketogenic diet (epileptics), which is significantly more difficult as a vegan. Also people are just different from each other, and find different things easy and difficult.
It's so disapointing to see vegans ragging on people who are also trying to minimize the harm they do in the world.
the idea that the body of another is not yours to do with as you please is the opposite of a colonialist mindset.
It is impossible to exist in the world without causing suffering. To minimize the suffering that one causes is the moral imperative, not to belittle those with different capabilities or ideas about the world.
Yes, of course, but I've always thought of vegetarians as people who don't eat anything that comes from a dead animal.
its possible you're thinking more of veganism? vegans don't consume or purchase any animal products at all.
No, I'm not thinking of veganism.
This is just the mentality that I've heard from many vegetarians.
