I have to figure out how to come out. I have, probably at least 6 months I guess. I think sweatshirts can carry me. Maybe in a year undershirts and shit will still work? But I kinda doubt it.
Very scared about coming out at work and to family. I don't think my parents will be supportive, especially my dad. I really don't know how to do it. And I'm very worried about how awkward things will be.
I should have my job very soon, and an apartment soon ish too. That's at least some progress towards independence, as much as I think I'm going to get before coming out. As much as I wish it was further from them.
But so I will have a job, in the same office as my dad but a different department, not reporting to him, so hopefully that isn't horrible. He is the one who's going to be shittier about it so that sucks. And would be the one taking me to work most of the time, or I can do a 45m bus ride one way. Its close enough I could get and ride an ebike too. But I am still worried about work in the same building as him, its not a huge building either. They don't let him work remote so I know they wouldn't let me either.
I don't know. I am very scared. I want to figure out how I want to come out. Right now I am thinking a group text with the two of them and explain a bit about myself and what this is for me and how important it is. I don't think I can do it in person, especially my dad. I genuinely want to shrivel up and never have to deal with coming out.
i wrote an email, but if your parents are anything like mine, they will immediately demand an in-person convo. just prep how you would respond to that
ugh yea. I really hate that idea. I'd really want it to simmer for at least a day or two... with work I know I can't get more then a weekend. Thank you I hadn't thought about them doing that. I really don't know how I'd respond
yeah it wasn't fun. I was super conciliatory and let them ask me a bunch of super personal questions in person and i really regret not asserting myself more at that time. they're libs so not as nervewracking, but still not fun.
The personal questions scare me (sexuality, surgery... idek what else), so does questions about the past, "but you had no signs", "how do you know" type stuff. Also I have a couple much younger siblings which makes it all hard. I- I have no idea how to respond to this from them especially.
I'm also worried about them asking me how long I've known for, since I started growing my hair out two years ago and have been opposed to getting it cut for that long. I can't imagine they wouldn't be hurt by me not telling them sooner.
Mine are chuds so :/ kms.
girl you are looking into a crystal ball of my past. they asked about sexuality (are you breaking up with your partner), surgery (it seems so permanent), you didnβt show any signs (i reminded them of me stealing womenβs clothing and being shamed for it). iβm sorry about the siblings, thankfully mine were a lot more go with the flow than my parents.
, i donβt think they get to have it both ways (as much as they will try). if they react poorly AND also get offended by how long it took, well you have your reasons right there! you got this eggnog, it will suck but hopefully let you live life more comfortably and openly
Tragically I don't have a sign as good as that. I laid in bed a lot as a teen wishing I was a woman... but whatever. I will probably just talk about how it makes me feel now and my dysphoria over time ig. Siblings, the bigger issue is they're young and my parents are going to be "protective".
Yea, very good point, and probably something I will bring up if they do react poorly. Its- I really don't think I will every be comfortable being out with my family.
oof one day I'll learn to not post stuff I care about getting responses to at night
It's going to be alright my love. You'll make it through. Texting is 100% easier to come out on
personally i came out with a letter, but a text would probably also work? gives more physical space and ability to disengage which is probably for the best.
i would go with the "writing it all out at once for them to read and absorb" approach and not the "conversation" approach
makes things easier and slightly less scary imo
prepared statement easier than on the fly responses
hm, yes thank you. I definitely was planning on an all at once message. I'm very unsure how to reply to a conversation after that.
I've seen your posts, you shouldn't wait that long for the sake of your mental health. A closet ain't a place to live, girl. You need room to breathe.
I can't get anywhere to breathe. I can't get a job away from them.
I expect things to get worse, not better, being out to my family and work. And after the move I no longer have friends.
You could get almost no reaction at all, so just be prepared for that as well. I came out by wearing a bra with a tshirt with a large opening to bait them into asking about it and just said I was taking hormones and the was the end of that conversation at that time. That was probably the reaction I was least prepared for. One of my moms is fairly hotheaded.
hm, maybe. I did get that from a person or two before. I would be shocked if that was the case for mine but maybe they'll have some kinda denial phase where they ignore it.
god I forgot your moms are gay.
