Plastic can be produced from renewable sources... we choose oil because its cheap and mostly a byproduct of the energy industry.

Yeah, that damned Chyna and India causing so much harm producing all the stuff only for themselves that the whole rest of the world absolutely doesn't use no way no how.

Ideally one would walk everywhere or take public transport, and in Europe at least a lot of people do...

But even then that's not always feasible - especially if you live in a country that has actively sabotage both those methods of transport - so making the cars they drive able to operate off of renewable energy (dependent on their source of electricity) is better than ranting like an old man and doing nothing
