That's just what the media is reporting on. Actually some other regions are having even more extreme heat waves although it's not everywhere on earth, obviously.

The current strong El Niño that is forming is highly predictive of severe heat in many places across the world, although there are some exceptions. So we can expect this to continue, albeit the exact geographic extent will likely shift.
