I dunno man. I've been in Germany the last week and I have to say that in this one case, the UK might be better.

I went to Germany in 2005. All the public toilets had large amounts of poo smeared all over the walls.

Das ist der classik “wandkacke”

[–] DisabledAceSocialist@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So it's a well-known thing in Germany then?

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

I'm not German but in all honestly, I don't think it is that common. German bathrooms I've been have always been pretty clean, but I guess it depends on where you were exactly.

do you remember if you had to pay to use them?

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago

I had to pay €1.50 to take a shit, so yeah

I don't think so.

My partner hates Germany with a burning passion and it has nothing to do with the things you would normally hate Germany for and everything to do with their food and cultural norms. Also some of their public infrastructure was "disgusting". Never been but I trust their judgement

Fun fact: the UK royal family (of German heritage) didn't change their last name from "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" to "Windsor" until July 1917. They were hedging their bets on which side would win WW1 and only did it when the outcome of the war was becoming more certain.

elaborate here because outside of like london or berlin whatever middling to big city I've been in in either country feels mostly the same

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

Expensive, privatised and dirty. Just like the UK, but with Germans. It's a close thing

Berlin beats London any day of the week

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

I haven’t been to Berlin but I hear it’s both extremely gay and has a fair bit of neat DDR stuff to explore.

[–] whatdoiputhere12@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

i remember stopping at dusseldorf on the way to watch a euros match and remember being miserable and hating every second there

probably didn’t help that it was raining, and maybe if i see berlin my mind would change

Berlin is nice but I wouldn't want to be there anything longer than a week. Now Leipzig, I love. Shame it's surrounded by fash.

I went to a great stag there, but yeah, it is pretty myself.
