I read his autobios I guess 10-15 years ago and the misogyny felt weird. I was very much as McNeill described in the article: a young scientist who appreciated that someone could be a great in their field and fun, turning a blind eye to the dark side. I didn’t hear about the further shitty behaviour until now, but I didn’t really go looking.

Indeed, there’s no unlearning quantum physics; we should remember that achieving great things doesn’t make someone a good person.

Eh, they lost me there. Scientists and all authority figures definitely need to be held accountable. Through admonishment, punishment, dismissal or police or criminal proceedings.

But to make this about the "direction" or "story" of science sounds like something else entirely. How about a little class warfare instead?
