Vlad got the Ottomans to put him on the throne in the first place after Hungary killed his brothers, the Hungarians ultimately ousted him and locked him up. He was allowed to fight as a vassal for Hungary after he converted to Catholicism, and died in a random skirmish so small there's no record of the battle. Truly a great European hero

It's like how El Cid gets trotted out as a national symbol of anti muslim bigotry. Like he spent half his life fighting for Muslim masters and the other half fighting for Christian ones.

Learning about El Cid as a kid led me to learning about Al Andalus and developing a life long fascination with Islam. I think I'm doing this great man history thing wrong
