It's normally a yellow flame that marks the end of the gas.

I would have thought yellow meant hurry up and cook or simply cease cooking immediately.

But can't you just replace the gas can when it stops burning? Why waste the green flames?

You do NOT want to run out of gas while you're heating gun powder.
