dating yourself with this reference i fear, my latchkey owl

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 8 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

People who were thirty when logans run came out are 77 years old now

[–] abc@hexbear.net 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

who said anything about them being 30 when Logan's Run came out they could have been 5 and it would still be dating themselves

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 4 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I didn't really think before posting, I was going for a 'this is xxxx now, now do you feel old' kinda thing and I actually typed something close to the actual age, even when I was trying to go for a gross overestimation (i didn't realise logans run was so old) so I had to course correct during the ninja edit window to the actual age that someone who was thirty when the movie came out would be now failure

Did you know the Teletubbies sun baby has kids now

FEEL OOOOOOOLD YEEEEEET?!

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

cuddle

there there. The point of my post was that being over 30 shouldn't be treated as a bad thing.

It might not seem like it because I'm a giant mess, but I would hate to lose the progress I've made as a person. I was even more of a loser when I was younger than I am now, some how that's possible!

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 5 points 15 hours ago

Yay progress! Nah it's all g dw I'm not bummed. We should interrogate and expel the ageism that we impose upon ourselves and hangups about aging, and one of the first ways to do so is to examine and reconcile our own fears about getting old, then extend the same courtesy (is that the best word...?) to others.

Fwiw on a related topic, I get into frequent disagreements with relatives about generational discourse (partly informed by your efforts here) about how arbitrary age markers are artificial divisions that are infinitely less useful as a demographic or analytical tool compared to race, or class, or gender yet they insist 'all gen alpha are like this' or 'all boomers are like that' as though it's the primary meaningful distinction. It pits me against the younguns and the oldies on both sides during these debates, but I'm used to copping flak so I don't mind.

No pressure to reply to my comment above, cos I've waffled a bit, just getting thoughts out of my brian into text.

Pretending to be 80 years old might be a fun bit though...

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 5 points 17 hours ago

Logans got the runs le-monke

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure 38 is 80 in owl years. It's parrots that are at a 1-to-1 ratio.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

Not 38, but honestly close enough lol

Still should be dead for an owl. Wtf how am I still alive?

Just having too much fun to die yet I guess

Reminds me of a joke I heard somewhere that was like "In anime everyone either looks 16 or 60"

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Dort consumption extends your lifespan probably.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago

Hmm yesss precious dort

[–] huf@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

it was constantly on tv though, for some reason. like, multiple times a year. for a long time.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 7 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

I first saw it in 2010 lol

Then again I've always loved cheesey old movies

[–] huf@hexbear.net 5 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

i think i first saw it on the scifi channel in 1998 or so. around the same time i saw dune (the funny one).

[–] Arahnya@hexbear.net 3 points 14 hours ago

its actually the best dune imo

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

There's a funny old Dune?! I HAVE TO SEE THIS!

Is that fucking Patrick Stuart firing a gun while clutching a pug? I am so in.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 3 points 10 hours ago

sting is also in it.

[–] someone@hexbear.net 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

We need to see it on the hextube sometime, it is a wild and amazing ride. The battle pug is just the tip of the iceberg. David Lynch also gave himself a small cameo role in one scene.

Fun fact, Lynch's bad experiences with executive meddling led to him turning down another potential directing project: Return of the Jedi. Lynch was Lucas' first choice for director, and Lynch said no after one meeting with Lucas.

[–] Arahnya@hexbear.net 8 points 14 hours ago

love that clip where Lynch says he had a massive headache after Lucas talked to him about wookies

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

It's a great film, gorgeous set design, and it doesn't shy away from letting the weird spacefuture stuff be weird. You can feel where it deserved to be a trilogy - or maybe just have a ten hour runtime.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

yeah, it's better than the new dune until around the middle, where it just falls apart completely, not just as a re-telling of dune but as a movie.

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 2 points 4 hours ago

If you've ever played Xenogears, it's an amazingly similar trainwreck.

[–] anaesidemus@hexbear.net 5 points 15 hours ago

LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 5 points 16 hours ago

I've never seen it. Our reruns were jumanji and the back to the future series (feels like every other weeknd was one or the other). I've never seen logans run but only know of it mostly through boonta vista bits and the Jude Law Scarjo movie The Island which is a spiritual successor, I think?

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Logans Run came out long before I was born, I've just seen a lot of old movies.

I mean, not trying to call myself young either. I'm old, just mid 30s old not mid 50s old lol
