How about not releasing this at all? Nobody wants this.

I also don't understand how "the physical button and built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones suggest that it can operate independently". It could just as well operate only with a connection to your phone. Otherwise it'd have to pack a lot more hardware.

Yes, it could be. But all the things they mentioned don't really lead to the conclusion they draw.
