The creators are right wing libertarians who have historically had some absolute wank takes, like denying climate change or that second hand smoking kills.

I actually think it’s kind of funny when they talk about anything but politics, but that’s all the show has been for over a decade now.

The early esrly early days. Like pre 2000, it was basically of cumtown was animated and while i haven't watched in over a decade, their silly stuff eas pretty funny.

I don’t know if I’d call them right wing libertarians, but the climate denial stuff is one thing they regret, and they did do an episode later where they had the kids apologizing to al gore because he ended up being right about manbearpig, so they did walk that back at least. Idk if you can fault someone for being wrong, admitting it, and TRYING to fix it as good as you can when you’re making an animated comedy about dick jokes.

They have quite literally referred to themselves as libertarians

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Really? Last time I looked I couldn’t find anything solid about their political beliefs.

https://reason.com/2006/12/05/south-park-libertarians-2/

Reason: Each of you at various points have called yourself libertarian. Is that an apt description?

Parker: People started throwing that word around to describe us right around the second or third season. They would sit us down and go, "So are you libertarian?" And I would always say, "I don't know, am I? You've seen my stuff."

I still don't really know the answer to that question. I think I am, though.

Stone: I think it is an apt description for me personally, and that has probably seeped into the show. But we never set out to do a libertarian show.

“We (libertarians) find just as many things to rip on the left as we do on the right. People on the far-left and the far-right are the same exact person to us.” ― Trey Parker

Hopefully I don't need to explain what side 'both sidesism' favours?(Right: let's kill a million of them, left: we shouldn't kill any, enlightened both sider: you're both so extreme let's compromise and kill only 500,000)

And even if they say their show isn't ideological(Media almost always reflects the beliefs and biases of its creators to some extent even if unconsciously) the show has been doing both the sort of both-sidesism right-libertarians often lean into in it since at least the Iraq war era(I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock and roll)

Yeah, thats a garbage ass take and very hollywood bullshitty, especially from two guys who claim to be above that.

I still like south park though.

It can be funny(I used to watch every episode when I was younger, and quoting it and other shows was a big part of my friend groups language)

Just don't base your identity or politics exclusively on it, their takes can occasionally be ok, but do not take them as the end all be all analysis of a given situation(not trying to imply you do, but there are many that do; who take the 'caring about things is lame', 'both sideism' etc messages to heart and base a lot of their politics on them)

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ive already chosen to base my entire identity and politics on some books I read by Lenin in my 20’s so dont worry about me my friend.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

It seems in recent seasons, they've become more milquetoast libs.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They've also had an anti-wikileaks episode because they got tired of it revealing info on war crimes

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Also made several episodes mocking trans people, said that hate crime laws were stupid (using a black character as a mouthpiece), said that the boy scouts should be allowed to exclude gay people if they want to (using a gay character as a mouthpiece), and probably more I’m forgetting
