I wonder what the rate is for people born in Isra*el vs. people who moved there as adults.
I would expect it's higher for people who move there. People who move there can lie to themselves about what "Israel" is until they experience it, whereas people who are born there (especially of younger generations) have been raised their entire lives not to see Palestinians as people. The external propaganda minimizes the violence, whereas the internal propaganda justifies it to produce soldiers who are willing to continue it.
Yeah, like, I was doing Palestinian activism in college during the 2010"s, but I just thought it was like a deep sectarian conflict (as most Americans are taught to understand it). The genuine bonafide racism and genocidal tendencies of Israelis didn't actually click until I saw a documentary that was literally just walk up interviews with random Israelis, especially college students my age and like people in their mid-thirties. And the majority would openly say, sometimes even in English, that Palestine and all Palestinians should be completely wiped off the map, and that it is only by Israeli patience and goodwill that it hasn't happened yet.
Even the 'liberal zionists' talked about the Palestinians as if they were animals that needed to be tamed and then cared for. It was real eye opening stuff because I didn't think there were people who actually thought like that, let alone so many. And the crazy part is that all of them would smile the whole time, like it was all a big joke, even when these policies were actively happening and actively killing Palestinians, particularly children.
What was the doc called?
Maybe the Abby Martin doc, "Gaza Fights For Freedom"?
Lol I would have included it if I could remember it has been over 6 or seven years since I last saw it. I will ask my friend who showed it to me next time I see them, they may remember.
Sounds like Abby Martin's street interviews with Israelis.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
That's my suspicion too but I kind of want to know for sure.
Yeah.
Anyone of army age moving there after Oct 7 2023 is doing it to kill Palestinians - but he moved there in 2022.
That means he had the minimum time for indoctrination. And then being a citizen, he would have been drafted, but drafted to a genocide instead of just doing some training and job skills bullshit for a 2 and a half years like he expected. He was a zionist almost by definition, but probably didn't have the same ability to completely dehumanize someone that gets drilled into kids there from a young age. So he either popped himself or got Pat Tillmanned
It's worth noting that the small bit of pushback against the regime from inside the "country" has been almost entirely led by younger folks who were born and raised there. There's definitely a significant divide between those who became settlers by choice vs those forced into it by birth. The propaganda runs deep and the whole culture is vile, but at least their grip is weakening on the newer generations.
All that said, zero sympathy for any IDF nazi, drafted or not. Got drafted, didn't take the jail time to fight it, but still don't want to murder Palestinians? You've got other options to make yourself useful, maybe something that rhymes with "tagging".
