Was talking to one of the admins of Hexbear yesterday and found out there is a whole lot of history to Hexbear and I would love to know more and I was told to say and I quote "Hey I'm mainly new to hexbear, please dump site lore on me like you're dumping slop in a pig trough"

It's also just generally because downvotes don't do anything good for social media. It's the subject of a few studies that all they really cause is negative behaviour.
The thing to do around here if you really disagree is to engage in dialog, i.e. reply. This leads to more fruitful outcomes most of the time.
Unfortunately that also means we quickly get accused of "brigading" other instances as they aren't used to the volume of disagreement that's being voiced instead of people passively hitting a downvote button.
