I don’t understand the end game here. What possible benefit is there to RFK or the federal government to reject sound science? I don’t see a profit motive, I don’t see a grift that’d be “worth” the deaths… it’s not like ivermectin is something you could profit off of… why?

What possible benefit is there to RFK or the federal government to reject sound science?

Fulfillment of their worldview based entirely on conspiracy theories.

Certain industries having to do with fraudulent medicine may get a boost from such a distorted government agency. This includes dozens of multi-level marketing corporations.

Also, Putin gets to benefit from the massive vaccine and medical disinformation program translating into gradual destabilization of the United States.

pseudoscience, supplements(not vitamins), things chronic lyme is a whole industry around it.

He doesn't believe in Germ theory. He's utterly deranged. The grift is alternative medicine, but I don't know if he really understands that it's a grift. His bosses surely do, but they just want to inflict as much punishment on institutions as possible.

believe in Germ theory doesn’t understand science

For him, it’s about being right. After learning a bit about his past, it seems (to me anyway) that having an autistic kid kind of broke him. He’s been trying to fix it ever since. It’s sad, really.

He should retire from public life and seek professional help then, not inflict his trauma on everyone else.

[–] Hazor@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

That would require acknowledging that he is the problem. He doesn't have that level of introspection. It's easier for him to just convince himself that the professionals are the problem.

Or retire from life

On the plus side, RFKjr:-

  • Is already rich
  • Has a mistrust of corporations.
  • Doesn't seem to be personally financially benefiting
  • Doesn't spout MAGA nonsense

On the minus side, RFKJr;

  • Is a lawyer, not a doctor or a scientist
  • Seems to believe anything he is told
  • has erroneously associated autism with vaccines
  • is trading hard on his family name
  • eats roadkill
  • had part of his brain eaten by worms

He's probably, like the rest of this cabinet, also Kremlin compromised and is just trying to fuck up everything possible. The whole charade of running as a Dem to steal Dem votes then immediately jumping ship when it turned out he was actually siphoning off Trump votes. The guy was a straight heroin addict at one point. Maybe still is? Who knows, but people who become heroin addicts don't make good decisions. It's absolutely possible he got jammed up monetarily and uncle Vlad came n bailed him out. The Kremlin would salivate at the opportunity to have a Kennedy on their roster.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

both RFK JR and stein had the same amount of votes, about million from both, i suspect they were mostly trump ones.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

It’s about protecting a world view that props up his value system by dismantling anything that might call it into question.

[–] avattar@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 days ago

Eugenics maybe? Killing off people with weaker immune systems and comorbities and the like?

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

He likes making people sick and die. A compulsion. It’s that simple.

What is complex is how this is being allowed

[–] bookmeat@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 2 days ago

All dissent is bad.
