oh yeah there's definitely plenty of gems in all those decades, some of those are my all time favorites. the 90s had some good shit too (Candyman etc) though it was fewer and far between. I think in the past decade we've started consistently getting good horror movies every year again which is awesome

same thing in Blade Runner, with the same actor. oh right and in Raiders of the Lost Ark it's implied that Indiana Jones groomed Marion when she was a minor

I've found this is particularly true of horror movies - they were pretty bad from the mid-90s until the early-10s before the Babadook ushered in a new golden age of horror (It Follows, The Witch, Get Out, Hereditary etc)

though now the genre is more popular than ever there's a high quantity of trash again, but that was even more true in the 80s golden age

ah right, the type of people who only travel for the gram and don't really engage with the culture of the place they're visiting anyway. imagine having the resources to go anywhere in the world and getting nothing out of it except some content for the slop factory. very cool

AI's propensity towards hyper-individualism. don't people listen to podcasts to learn something about the world outside of themselves, to hear someone else's story or perspective? this need for content so specifically geared towards oneself just shouts "main character syndrome"

also I just can't imagine how an AI-generated podcast based on your vacation pics would even be interesting to listen to. why would you want to hear a fake person relay your own memories back to you based on something as superficial as a photograph? surely your actual lived experience is deeper and more valuable than what some algorithm assumes from a bunch of pixels

and of course it will inevitably say something wrong, probably often. maybe the AI identifies a fruit stand in your photos and the artificial host says something about how strong the smell of strawberries was, except you don't actually remember smelling strawberries. maybe it's been awhile so you think "hm I guess it did smell like strawberries " and the AI just implanted a false memory. disturbing stuff lol

it became good and very bad at the same time. 2010s gave us Kendrick but it also gave us Drake

oh my god she has that useless $200 "AI assistant" thing that everyone made fun of when it came out

meanwhile I literally couldn't upgrade to win11 if I wanted to because my CPU is more than 5 years old

best decision of 2025 so far, I'm already hearing way more interesting and experimental music from lesser-known/independent artists

haven't paid for a Spotify subscription for about two years, but I still used the free version (with an app that mutes the ads) but it's so fucking awful - every time I open that garbage app it tries to queue up some mainstream track they're promoting and I can't even access my play queue with the free version - nor can I listen to albums or playlists in order, making it mostly useless

I started building up my local .flac library (thanks to soulseek and bandcamp fridays) but that's just on my PC and I still missed being able to easily stream full albums on my phone. then I remembered Soundcloud has a Spotify-like subscription, which everyone scoffed at when it was first announced but I'm using the free trial and it's not too bad, not any worse than Spotify anyway. plus I get exposed to relatively unknown artists who can't necessarily afford to get their music distributed on other platforms

sorry if this sounds like an ad - I'm sure SC is run by ghouls and I doubt they pay artists any better than Spotify or Apple does but it's nice having an alternative that isn't giving money to fucking Joe Rogan. I'm just glad to get that stupid green app off my phone

that was an accusation leveled by bitter crypto dipshits, and everyone just took them at their word? maybe the price just tanked because it's a fucking memecoin and crypto is inherently unstable

not saying this to defend her - I despise anyone who would launch a cryptocurrency for any reason and I curse her and her family to ill fortune for 1000 years - but it would actually be way cooler if she did scam these losers (which is why I don't think it happened)

anyway this is the least consequential thing ever and I'm sorry for posting about it but it kind of bothers me that most people just went along with the crypto-bro narrative
