Nah fuck that guy

Ah hell, I knew something was off.

Here’s the build:

Prime day got me a few upgrades from my initial build.

It was about $850, plus some to replace some cables. The prebuilts I saw in the same price range were a lot weaker. I also got lucky with prime day, got to upgrade a few parts for the same price.

Here’s the thread: https://lemmy.one/post/876670

The hardest part for me honestly was trying to figure out how to get the heat sink back on the m2 after I installed the ssd lol. Took me an hour before I realized there was an extra screw.

Also took me another hour trying to figure out how to install the motherboard in the case. I finally realized that the case had some standoffs in a baggie tucked away in the psu compartment.

I should have taken the advice I read not to start at 9 PM lol.

Good catch, I didn’t even know to look at that. I think I’m going to stick with the stock cooler for now, and upgrade later if I need it.

EDIT: Here's what I ended up going with: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j3VDbK

I decided to stick with the stock cooler for now, if I need to upgrade later then I will. I was going to downgrade the CPU to the 5600 as recommended to save some money, but the prime day sale kicked in and the X ended up being cheaper. I also switched to the 980 Pro rather than the Evo 970, once again courtesy of our capitalist overlord's Bezos day. I managed to snag a new RX 6700 XT for $310 on Amazon a few days ago, but it's shipping from Portugal so we'll see if that sticks.

Really appreciate all the advice, yall made it a lot less intimidating.

The main thing that got me on Memmy over wefwef is probably stupid, but it’s the haptic feedback on swiping to upvote.

I work with 20 year old legacy spaghetti code, the debugger has become one of my most treasured tools.

Oh I took this picture back when I first set it up. It looks much more used now.
