It's funny that CNC can either be one of these industrials machines I don't know much about, or Consented NonConsent

Hello,

I have been thinking about making the jump towards Open Source, not just using OSS but also contributing to it.

First, some OSS projects/apps I know of are Peertube, Lemmy (right now using Voyager app), Mastodon, Matrix (used to use the Element app, gave up because I realized it was too hard for those around me who got used to Whatsapp), OpenStreetMap (through OrganicMaps), Jellyfin, and Actual Budget, Godot Engine, Luanti, GrapheneOS... I might know more, but those are the ones I remember right now.

Second, I have some basic experience with programming (mainly Java [haven't learnt GUI yet tho], SQL, and C# for Unity videogames), but no experience entering an already created codebase yet, let alone making changes and sending them (and I admit I might need to get some practice with Git), so it is pretty intimidating. Do you have any advice about it?

Third, I'd like to hear about projects you find interesting or useful. Not neccesarily to contribute or even use them myself, but I'm interested in which other projects there are out there.

This assumes independents are centrists...

Eh, better than defering the 100% that Adams had defered to him, or even more. He's, in principleM only deferring 20%... that's a huge decrease...

That's fair. At least I got an starting point now even if it's hard at first.

Not OP, but, thank you for this, I will take a look at Amateur Radio.Got any advice (or more like pointers) for self hosting, privacy and security? To me, it seems like a huge effort, both to learn and to keep it up.

Got any advice on how to start doing that, for someone who considers themselves tech-savvy, but not enough to know how to self host, or to know the open source alternatives yet?

I don't wanna blame them because each does what they need to get by and may not have the energies for more, but if the average person doesn't start to fight it, it's gonna be the dystopia.

Unless AI and automatization is done for everyone's good, and not just for the profit of a very small group, it's either going to collapse under the demands of the majority, or it will bring us to a dystopia where either the bottom is forced to procreate to keep having cheap labor for the worst jobs, ad-infinitum, or it gets phased out by machines until all there is left is the people on top.

I guess I'll keep my Android phone for whatever I need big corpo for (bank app, whatsapp every1 uses, 2FA), and get a GrapheneOS-able phone for the rest.
