Thank you for that!
I think I can say it now, except I keep wanting to put a Scottish "ch" at the end of Llangrannog instead of a "g" sound.

As an Android user, I completely agree with this statement but probably for different reasons.
I just tried to pronounce the name of that place, and now my tongue hurts. Beautiful picture.
Never watched it because the characters all look creepy to me. I remember other kids watching "Speed Racer" back in the 70s, so I referred to as "that crappy Japanese animation style" until I learned the name for it when it really took off in the US after around 2000.
I know that makes me something of a Philistine. I'm aware that it has a rich history and millions (billions?) of devoted fans.
It still creeps me out, though.
My understanding of the history of the fediverse, such as it is, is that it was initially used by marginalized groups. Specifically LGBTQ people who felt (and in fact were) persecuted on other platforms.
Trans rights are a core issue to many people here. This is likely why your take is being met with outright rejection by so many.
... And that's the same year I graduated high school...
That is my experience too. It's because there is no distinction between posts and comments, I think. It's about as interesting as my sms chats with friends would be to strangers.
Pluto was discovered because the orbit of Neptune didn't match predictions, so astronomers decided that there must be a ninth planet out there. It was very close to where the math predicted it would be.
It turned out later that Pluto was much, much smaller than at first thought, and couldn't be the 9th planet. It then turned out that the mass of Neptune was greater than expected, and the orbit actually matched expectations without the need for a 9th planet.
I think most Americans like the idea of public transport, and including a robust national rail network. The reason it doesn't exist are the oil and automotive lobbies. (Mostly oil.). Poorly educated Americans (the ones wearing MAGA hats) are easy to manipulate by these groups, as well.
I'd use Lemmy Explorer to find communities that interest you. The link I just shared is sorted by subscriber count, so it should show the most active communities at the top.
I guess it depends on context. If it's an awareness thing aimed at helping peers and leaders support people, I think it's a good start. Most such things are inaccurate, though. This one says "challenging to maintain focus", which is only true of something I'm not interested in. At other times, it's more challenging to switch focus. 🙂
Mind if I hijack this thread for a related topic?
I'm on the hook for doing a short talk on ADHD in my workplace's next all-hands meeting (I volunteered). I figure I'll use the time to correct some misunderstandings. I'll probably start with the name - calling it "attention deficit" is like referring to color blindness as "vision deficit" - it's true in some circumstances, but not very useful. I'm a bit leery of going with "executive function impairment", since I think that many people might think all congnition is part of "executive function" and hear that as "thinking impaired", when it's much more specific.
Does anyone have a term they like better than ADHD to describe what's really going on with us?
People like Musk are cynical, attention-seeking manipulators and narcissists. They aren't afraid that their way of life is being threatened, they're using the fears of others to further their own ends, and consider themselves above it all.
That article was the most cogent take I have seen on this subject. I have a similar cultural background (rednecks and urban, religious Polish-Americans), but see myself as a science-literate atheist. I have seen this first-hand, but wasn't able to articulate it as well.
