I’d be done with my sleeves this weekend like I wanted except I got into a really good knitting rhythm and made the sleeves about 2 inches too long. The stitch marker shows where I should’ve switched to ribbing for the cuff, and where I had to rip back to.

Thankfully I was able to put in an afterthought lifeline (my first through any lace, which the sleeves have running down the side) and unravel the extra without incident. I’ve now begun the cuffs and I’m hoping to finish both sleeves by this Friday.

I have a partially finished cardigan sitting in time out that is the same pattern, so I’m used to it. I do wish it did more for the yarn though. I kind of wish I’d gone with something involving a slip stitch or something to pull the stripe colors into each other (if that makes sense). This pattern, to me, has no purpose. But I’m a slow knitter, so no way I’m frogging these when they’ll be wearable as they are.

My socks are coming along:

They’re my easier project atm, so I have something I can take with me and knit on the go. First time I’ve added a ribbing section for the arch of my foot.

I’ve made a little more progress on my sweater, hoping to have the sleeves finished by next weekend (not the one in 2 days).

I’m liking it so far. It’s very soft and doesn’t irritate my fingers. It is definitely getting a halo in areas and I haven’t even blocked it yet, so I am wondering how it will wear long-term.

I knew it was missing something.

If she wants to share I’d love to see it!

Thank you! I started it in January 2025 so at this point just finishing it counts as in good time.

Sweater progress (midwest.social)

Still chugging along on the sleeves of my sweater. I’m doing full-length sleeves instead of the pattern’s 3/4. During the week I usually only get 2-3 rounds done each night, so I’m hoping to have the sweater done by the end of the month.

Pattern: Sunanami pullover

I love the marled color combination on your hat! I’ve made 2 Melt the ICE hats so far. And I love how the color is pooling on your scarf. I’m impressed you’re making it with fingering weight yarn! That definitely takes patience, no matter how big it ends up.

I have to do socks and sleeves two at a time, otherwise I really struggle to make the 2nd one. It’s so much easier to tell myself I’ll finish it later, cast on a new project, and 2 years later I still haven’t finished it. But it definitely gets complicated with colorwork, juggling all the strands and keeping them untangled. I used to keep each ball in a plastic bag, but I just discovered yarn cozies and they work so much better for keeping the yarn tidy.

What's on my needles (midwest.social)

A couple things I’m currently working on:

IMG_0964.jpg Pattern: Sunanami pullover Finished the collar, now working on the sleeves. The bottom ribbing still needs to be done too, but I want the sleeves done first so I can see if I need to do any short rows in the bottom hem.

A8D44D28_0AB6_46A2_BF9E_39FBB65AC449.jpg Pattern: Hermoine’s everyday socks My first time purling across the bottom of the sock to see if I like that texture better when wearing them

07B437D9_0D9B_45E2_A0C5_C4AA74C1DB6C.jpg Pattern: Delectable collectible socks My first surprise sock along. It’s been put aside as I try to finish my sweater, as I only have the brain power for one challenging project at a time.

2 of these have been on the needles for 6+ months, so I’m hoping posting my in-progress projects more often will help me stay on track and get these finished.

According to an NPR article, the pattern has raised over $400,000.

I don’t have many IRL knitting/crochet friends so it’s a pretty solitary craft for me. It’s really cool to see the collective impact the fiber community can have.

The last one I can hear it saying “chick-a-dee-dee”

thank you for going back and checking on them! and calling a specialist for advice.

sometimes they get chased to the ground but are fine, other times they get hurt and can no longer fly which is why they’re on the ground. this one seems to be making their way up to a proper takeoff height again which is a good sign

this site lets you sort species by country and state

are you able to go back and see if that bat is still there? many species of midwestern bats cannot take off from the ground and would need rescuing

if that’s the case, search your state plus wildlife rehab, and call one of those places to ask what to do

Books: Narwhal and Jelly was a favorite at that age. Also if an adult reads with her, we were reading the Mercy the Pig, and Zoey and Sassafrass series at that age.

I’m pretty sure that was also about the age we got our first Snap Circuits set. It still gets pulled out and built every so often - the flying “helicopter” is still a favorite.

However, Play-Doh is one you can never go wrong with at that age.

Edit: Forgot to add that Dr. Seuss and PD Eastman books are very good for the typical 6-7 year old reading level.

How did you hack my phone? (/s)

I thought I was being smart because I almost always remember my phone, so no more looking for misplaced notebooks. Now if only I can remember which app I saved that idea in and what title I gave it.

Recipe:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/3 cup milk, warmed to 70º to 80ºF
  • 3 tablespoons water, warmed to 70º to 80ºF
  • 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 420 grams bread flour (or 403g all purpose flour plus 17g vital wheat gluten)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated/caster sugar
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • For cinnamon swirl: 2 tablespoons granulated/caster sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

I mixed it using my bread machine, then let it rise for another 30 minutes after the 90 minute cycle ended since it’s an enriched dough. Then I kneaded the dough a bit and flattened it out (like for a pizza crust). Next time I’ll roll it out even more to get a better swirl. I sprinkled the sugar+cinnamon, leaving about 1 inch on one edge uncovered so I could seal up the roll. I rolled the dough up, ending at the uncovered edge. Then I tucked the ends under and put it in a greased bread pan. I let it rise again about 30 minutes (until it reached the top of the pan). After brushing the top with milk, I baked at 375ºF for 30 minutes.

My sister in law is very hard to shop for, but she knits and crochets. She also makes kimchi throughout the year, so I painted the ingredients for kimchi on some stitch markers she can use with her knitting projects.

I make these in memory of my grandma every year when my family gets together for Christmas, following this recipe. The recipe makes 16 kolache, 12 with apricot filling and 4 with poppy seed filling
