if the manufacturer of the device itself isnt trustworthy everything you do to try and make the device "trustworthy" is futile because OEMs could not just implement backdoors at the software level, but firmware or even hardware level.

I'd recommend the T480 as it's the last of the T series that still has 2 ram slots and internal+external battery, while being the first with quad core U series CPUs which are really much faster than the dual core ones in T470 and older. If you combine internal and largest possible external battery you end up with 96Wh which makes it compete with the new M1 macs for battery life.

Ram and storage are both dirt cheap, I'd consider any new laptop/pc with only 8gb non upgradable RAM ewaste these days. 2tb NVMe drives have dropped below 100€ already and 1tb below 50€
