I'm up to 92 so far. A mix of non English, furry and hentai porn, and a few I just don't see the point of. I've got 6 or 7 users to, mostly bots that repost reddit content, and the piped link bot.

79 so far. If we could just block instances it would be so much better. OR if we had a distinction between NSFW porn and NSFW non porn. I just don't want porn in all, but I want to be able to discover new communities. And I don't want to block all NSFW because I enjoy some content that is marked as NSFW...I just don't want porn.

[-] shimian@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

I’m ok with the porn, I just want to avoid the furry shit. Titties? Sure. An anime fox fucking another anime fox? No thanks.

I would like to see a more finely grained nsfw filter. It could have categories like

  • nudity
  • hardcore porn
  • gore
  • violence

Uhh that's all I can think of right now. Sometimes I like porn but I pretty much never want to see gore.

Yep, I got the same issue with blocking communities. It would be so much simpler to simply block pornlemmy and lemmynsfw than to block the myriad of communities that pop up

There’s a whole yiff instance with various yiff communities. I think I may have finally gotten them all.

[-] dingus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Until someone makes another yiff community on the instance lol

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

Why must I struggle so just not see humanoid animals fucking?

I never saw this problem coming as a child.

I'm already blocking one user after roughly one month here.

He was in so many comment sections posting the same gif of a woman shitting.

Allowing users to post gifs was a mistake.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

Is this the troll in sh.itjust.works? Thankfully all their stuff has been taken down before I've seen it

A lot, mostly porn.

I'm not morally opposed to porn--but like 99.9% is aimed at straight men, or is the Disney-style furry art, and it does NOTHING for me. It's like being drowned in, I dunno...football communities. It's boring as shit and I Just. Don't. Care.

I haven't blocked anything yet. I just signed up and I'm having trouble finding anything. My timeline is just the same few things repeating. How are you all seeing stuff you haven't subbed to?

[-] BloodForTheBloodGod@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

Change your settings not to show read posts will probably help, too!

You can use the "All" section of the instance you are using. You can also search for more communities from other instances using the Lemmy Community Browser.

Basically anything political, anything not in English, and anything that starts with "Fuck xyz" because those communities are always toxic as hell.

[-] PrismMind@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

My own philosophy is that if a community can only be described with negative values it will ultimately be a shitty community.

Anything that starts with anti- or fuck noun even if I agree with them is a instant block for me.

Dude I agree so much. Because I've fallen for the trap of thinking "oh yeah, I support being against that too, fuck it!"

But then slowly realize that even if I support being anti whatever, the community itself is just filled with negativity and hate. Justifiable or not, it's always an emotional drag, so yeah, best to just cut it out of my life, I don't need it.

102 so far. It's mostly porn and the creepy hentai and furry stuff, some of the foreign language communities that get through the filters, and things like different sports, that I'm never going to be interested in.

As other people have said, I want to be able to browse through All to discover new content, but there's no point in seeing things that I'm never going to like.

Zero blocks of any sort currently. I mainly use my subscribed feed, and while I do check all periodically, I have pretty tough eyeballs.

[-] Skellybones@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

I have managed to block fuckcars 6 six times. Which is funny because every time I block it a new one pops up

None so far. At this point you might as well use the "Subscribed" tab. Whitelist instead of blacklisting communities.

[-] TurnItOff_OnAgain@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I use subscribed most of the time, but enjoy local and all to see what else is out there. Just added !sciencefiction@lemmy.world today after finding it in all

[-] Mewtwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago

What? Why are you blocking communities so much? Just go through the list of communities and subscribe to what appeals you you then just browse subscriptions.

[-] BrainisfineIthink@lemmy.one 45 points 1 year ago

Not speaking for OP, but I do it because if you block communities they don't show up when you browse by "all". That's my preferred way to find new stuff (even if it's meme heavy). I like that it's as easy to hide communities I'm not interested in as it is to subscribe to new communities. It's a great feature.

[-] TurnItOff_OnAgain@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Yep, this is why. I browsr All often to find new stuff and don't want to wade through all the other stuff.

[-] Pinecone@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Because new communities are still coming up and it may be relevant to us

[-] TvanBuuren@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

None, I am open to all ~~the filth~~ humanity has to offer.

I'm not sure how to see, but I've blocked every non-english, sports, and state/town/city community that I've come across. I kinda wishcommunities had tags for stuff like that, cause theres a lot of languages, sports, and places to block out there

I just blocked Politics.

I felt that politics posts and discussions on reddit led to a separation of communities and echo chamber when platforms like that an Lemmy would ideally, be politics free.

It leads to a more friendly positive and inclusive place to be.

I think it would be impossible to keep politics off Lemmy so best I can do for now is filter it out.

You can choose to filter by language in the Lemmy ui directly. I selected English and Unspecified and it eliminated all the German, dutch and Philippine subs.

[-] TurnItOff_OnAgain@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I have English and undefined selected, but still get some non English stuff.

On my single user instance All and Subscribed are the same so none.

I block some users who insulted me and weren't interrmested in discussiond. And I block threads.com

A lot. The way I curate my feed is I subscribe to communities that I'm actively and significantly interested in and block all of them that I don't see myself ever wanting to check out. The rest are places that I might want to see, but maybe not all the time. This way I can filter by Subscribed to see a very focused feed and by All if I want some more randomness, but still without topics I'm really disinterested in.

So many anime and meme communities....

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I don't understand why you need to block anyone? I subscribed to what I like and that's all I have in my feed how are you getting these other communities?

[-] TurnItOff_OnAgain@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I browse the local and all feeds to find new stuff. Local shows everything on the instance I am in, and All shows the local feed, plus communities on other instances that other people on Lemmy.World follow.

[-] TheBananaKing@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I don't block anything.

I view subscribed day-to-day, and browse through All when I want to find new communities to sub to.

There's all kinds of shit in All that's not for me, and that's... how it's supposed to be?
