That was amazing!! Just wish we got to see the final image of the BIL on the veranda, broken and surrounded by 23 bags of rice
I feel duped! Where is that picture!
This was the most compelling thing I've ever read
It’s not the same, but this all reminds me of ‘A House for Mister Biswas,’ which one reviewer on Goodreads describes as “more than 600 pages filled with the bickering, moans and wailing of a large Indo-Trinidadian family.”
I love stories like this. Humans are so funny.
That was hilarious, thank you! I must admit I'm morbidly curious as to how one orders a truck of rice by mistake...
I'm assuming it's a single pallet and the shop owner told the warehouse to send the minimum order amount. BIL probably thought it was just a few bags.
Looks more like a single container
700 ish bags of rice? and he only bought 24. lol
Massive success tbh. Imagine Havin to deal with 700 fucking bags of rice. Those sacks also looks to be 50 kg wholesale sacks meant for ration shops and godowns so thats likely 35 fucking TONS of rice.
EDIT: They're actually 100 kg sacks, so 70 tons.
Still got stuck with 2.4 tons lol. Guess that'll last them like a week
"Somebody needs to go back and get a shitload of onions!"
23?
"Final terms: 23 bags, one bottle Old Monk, one bottle scotch*. Everyone is exhausted"
The whole point of this set of twitter pic conversations was the negotiation to not have to buy the whole lorry worth.
Your comment says 24

"We are all here"
Sounds like a Palahniuk novel.
Can you recommend one for a first time Palahniuk reader?
Edit: well shit, so far no consensus :)
choke 👈
I recommend Haunted. One of the first short stories is very interesting.
Haunted is amazing but the short story "guts" has scarred me for life.
Obviously go for guts for maximum slap in the face. I also liked the time travel one.
Honestly I only read Fight Club and that was two weeks ago.
So I guess that one.
Wow. Do they do truck-loads of rice as Cash on Delivery there? If he didn't pre-pay, can he just refuse delivery and not pay? No idea what verbal contract laws are in place.
These sorts of deals are usually based on trust. You might pay beforehand, on delivery, or later. But cancelling / not paying will tank your reputation.
Imagine BIL getting sent out for rice every day and coming back empty handed after this incident
This would make a hell of a 90 minute Netflix movie.
Kind of reminds me of " A Man Called Ove" or, in movie form, "A Man Called Otto."
This story was just what the doctor ordered. Thank you for posting this.
Man I need that image of man on verandah
I need a smoke after that.
Fuck that was a great read.
Fuck Tumblr's pop up
Yeah I'd love to know the conclusion of the story but when that popped up I immediately didn't care anymore. Fuck Tumblr.
Why don't you read it here on lemmy then?
It wasn't showing the other images in my preferred app.
Took me a bit to figure out they were even there. But I swItched apps and finished it, thank you :)
For some reason on my computer it would only let me see the first one but on the app I can see the others. I'm a little slow. Lol
Try a different app. The images are in the post, they just aren't showing right for some reason.
This post has more twists and turns than a roller coaster lmao, great post!
Those look way bigger than thw 50lb bags I'm familiar with. Are those 100lbs? 200lbs?
100 kg, so a little over 200 pounds.
So thats 70 tons of rice the OP's BIL nearly got stuck with.
Holy shit I'm fuckin' dying
I could see my brother doing this.
What a ride!
