Folks, it's no good

The dating apps, folks, we all hate them. They're no good. No good!

This loneliness thing? It's a problem. More and more folks are saying it

Depression? Get rid of it, I say

Here's the trick that works for me

Develop anger issues

Learn to manage them as well as you can

Harbor intense feelings of unresolved anger towards just... Generally everything going wrong.

Bottle all that shit up inside. It's best for this stage to have as little autonomy and self determination as possible, so there is a lot of internal pressure built

Whenever you feel anything, simply wash it away with a quick dose of released anger, like a power washer taking paint off the side of a house

Keep doing that for years

???

Eventually you're fine!

I'm definitely fine and doing ok.

1000% plus getting really really angry at inanimate objects helps. Nail hammer got you down? Curse it violently and abandon immediately. Just let the hatred seethe that seems to be te solution

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 months ago

No no no, see, the nail hammer didn't do anything wrong!

I did.

I'm the one that fucked up, so I focus all of my anger on myself. Works every time!

[-] The_Jewish_Cuban@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

Hell yeah bad at the game is fun. I'll get back to you on the pirated compatibility

Starting with just friends would probably be best. Have you tried online or offline groups for mutual interests? That's always been helpful for me

I'm sorry you're going through it comrademeow-hug

Many people are saying!

They come up to me, they say "corgi, how do you handle your depression?" Folks, im here to say, not well all the time. My shell, my big beautiful shell, it's such a great place to retreat into.

I can't keep the bit up fuck it. Sending love and good vibes.

Just speaking for myself here, but having a dog is a massive mental health boost for me. There are lots of lonely pups that need to be rescued, so I recommend adopting one (or cat) for anyone who is able.

A pet is a great way to bridge the "so desperately lonely that I scare people off" gap.

I remember trying Bumble back in the day. I had better luck with Fetlife. Personally you just got better luck in general through just going outside and bumping into people. It's like that boomer thing about handing out resumes in person, but actually real.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Signed up for Fetlife after reading this, I'll give it a shot. Might actually find someone looking for a blank slate to train.

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

I wish you well. Follow events so you can get to know your community and properly vet each other. From there you can meet some genuinely great people. At the very least, the circles I've hung out in have been great.

I wish I could say that, but I'm 0 for 0 on both online and IRL agony-deep

[-] DickFuckarelli@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

I'm feeling this too. I have no advice. I have some hobbies (working out, bbq, and making beer).

Thank god my kid loves me and my wife and I are good with each other.

There's a big black song called 'passing complexion' that I've been reworking to 'crushing depression'

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

Feel you there. I've really been through it lately, just feeling kind of lost. I keep thinking that I might be feeling burned out since I feel fine and even thrive, but then I get home and end up in the soup of all of my negative thoughts. It got worse after this past week when I hung out with a couple of coworkers. Like I had some fun, but it also it felt like I was hanging out with the wrong people. IDK... sounds kind of weird.

[-] blakeus12@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

feeling kind of lost

Moved to another country, made some friends in college. Finished college, no friends anymore. I literally only talk to people from the other country I left lol I gotta go outside and meet people, but the people I would vibe with don’t go outside like me lmao

Pills baby 😎

[-] Drewfro66@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Try microdosing Prozac (long form seeing a psychiatrist and asking about a baby dose)

I had hesitations about being on antidepressants because I wanted to live a life that made me happy organically/naturally, not just take pills that made me happy/numb despite my shitty life. After being on them for a while I realized that the point of SSRIs does not necessarily have to be taking them for the rest of your life to make yourself not depressed, but to help you build a life worth living.

Prozac has especially helped with anxiety. I joined a lefty org, I go out to bars, I use dating apps. I find it was easier to ask out people now, both in person and online. Before Prozac I had two sexual partners in my entire life by my mid 20s, within six months of starting I had 6 more. In the right dose, it can completely kill your sense of anxiety, social or otherwise.

My psychiatrist says that a lot of people give up Prozac because prescribers start people off on too high of a dose, sometimes 10x what they started me on or 5x what I'm on now, and they just can't handle the side effects (headaches, panic attacks, ear ringing, attention issues, emotional numbness).

The little steps you take when you're on SSRIs will persist when you stop taking them. You'll still have your dating app profiles, you'll still feel comfortable going out to your favorite bars, you'll still have the friends and partners you've made. They give you the stability to build your support network that will support you when you stop taking them.
