Donald Trump is trying to bring into politics a phenomenon that's taking off in college athletics: money for use of the former president's name, image and likeness in campaign ads.

In a letter this week, the Trump presidential campaign asked all down-ballot GOP campaigns for at least a 5% cut of the money raised from advertising that features the party's 2024 presumptive White House nominee.

"We ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC," said the April 15 letter signed by campaign co-campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita.

Fucking LOL. Hes so obviously trying to get other people to cover his financial issues. He’s trying to charge other Republicans rent for riding his coattails. That’s incredible.

Don Poorleone, indeed.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 30 points 7 months ago

At least he's being honest with the name "Trump National Committee JFC" (Jesus Fucking Christ...)

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

I was hoping Lara renamed the RNC.

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 90 points 7 months ago

So can the rest of the GOP also hold Trump financially responsible for the damage he has done to that party's (arguably already rather dubious) reputation?

[-] TurboDiesel@lemmy.world 58 points 7 months ago

You're asking for accountability in the GOP? If you believe that's possible I've got a bridge to sell you.

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 37 points 7 months ago

Unfortunately, I don't have space for a bridge at the moment, but I would be interested in some snake oil.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago

What about snake oil NFTs? I can do you a special deal!

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

Sold if you throw in a pair of golden sneakers.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

Done! And a free Bible signed by Jesus himself!

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Sorry, that would clutter the shelf. I already have a Trump bible.

[-] anarchrist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 7 months ago

Is it in the Chesapeake Bay?

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

No, this one is on the east river. But wouldn't you know I have a friend who's selling the bay bridge!

I still find it amusing that's an actual thing sometime actually did.... Multiple times....

[-] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 22 points 7 months ago

You know what? In the context of reputational damage to the GOP, I’d absolutely love to see this scenario play all the way out without any external intervention.

[-] nxdefiant@startrek.website 8 points 7 months ago

I'm not saying I want to see an all-GOP cast do a live action reenactment of Lord of the Flies, but can trump be piggy? He even gets to do a speech!

[-] Patches@sh.itjust.works 9 points 7 months ago

He has done

LMAO They did most of the damage themselves.

Might as well hold Hilary responsible for the damage he has done with her Pied Piper strategy.

[-] interrobang@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 7 months ago

Goddamn, the crux of my problem with the DNC in a nutshell

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 60 points 7 months ago

Say what you will about Donald Trump, but he's the only man running for President who is serious about defeating the Republican Party.

"fallen ex billionaire holds out his hand to beg for money"

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

Clearly there must be something wrong with his bootstraps.

[-] jkrtn@lemmy.ml 5 points 7 months ago

The bone spurs poked holes in them.

[-] pivot_root@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

He didn't pull himself up by them enough.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Tiny hands and a big waistline make that pretty difficult.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Its more common than you'd think.

[-] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 2 points 7 months ago

I can finally use this phrase I learned last year: I’ll hold out my hand, and maybe a fuck will fall from the sky, and then I’ll have one to give.

May the republicans eat themselves.

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 53 points 7 months ago

I didn't think the Orange Moron could damage downballot fascists any more than he already has, but boy was I wrong.

The world's most famous rapist simply can't stop grifting.

Do we have a god of shortsighted avarice? Feels like that’s what this country worships.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

We need more worship of the God of Tits and Wine!

[-] Granite@kbin.social 8 points 7 months ago

Okay, lemme give Dionysus a text.

[-] teft@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Dionysus

He goes by Ozzy now.

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Slaanesh?

Gad(Hebrew)\Mammon(Aramic)

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Gad is who people in the northeast worship while they're pahking their cahs.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 months ago

I just about looked up what pahking was before I said it out loud lmao

[-] cybersandwich@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Don't be so sure. Maybe they'll stop using his name and likeness and those that are "moderate" Republicans will find a way to hold their nose and vote when they otherwise wouldn't.

Personal profit over party.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

As if being loyal to a political party is a virtue.

The grift evolves

I encourage this move.
