First playthrough: Died 5-20 times to every boss... except Demon of Hatred; that shit took me 52 tries (yes I counted)

Second playthrough: First-tried every single boss in the game... except the Demon of Hatred which took me 4

Sekiro is perfect; it truly does make you feel like a shinobi mastering combat. I've been chasing that high ever since that second playthrough.

Plz ignore the rumor that I almost threw the controller after dying FOR THE TWENTIETH TIME to Juzou the Drunkard, it's nothing but malicious slander to claim I was "malding"

[-] ryepunk@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

Lol and I didn't spend like 6 hours fighting the boss after juzou the drunk. Lady butterfly? Because I refused to follow the main path first and get a damage increase or gadget that would have made the fight much easier.

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Lady Butterfly still gives me nightmares and I haven’t fought her in years

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Rumors say I too knew Hirata Estate was overleveled, and that I was simply being stubborn and bullheaded about beating it........well those rumors are quite well sourced

[-] Aquilae@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

God I swear Juzou was as hard as the fucking Demon of Hatred on my first run

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago

Sekiro is the weirdest and coolest DDR clone of all time.

It is one of the worst action RPGs of all time though

[-] Stoatmilk@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago
[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

Sure, but it's made by one of the action RPG companies of all time, marketed and sold as if it's an action RPG, and then you get in there and nah it's just a DDR clone. Sekiro is the most infuriating game of all time for me. OF ALL TIME.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Wrong, it is Otogi 3

[-] pinguinu@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 months ago

No, it's a rhythm game, obv

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that a mechanic based upon flashing a japanese symbol on the screen for a nanosecond and you then have to react based on the specific sign is a stupid fucking mechanic.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It only shows one: 危

Which means danger. It just means you can't block/party whatever attack is about to happen. You have to figure out what to do based on what the enemy's attack is. Low sweep means you jump, forward thrust means you do the kick Parry thing. Anything else and you dodge out of the way.

[-] theposterformerlyknownasgood@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I literally got through the whole game assuming I had to read the little thing, and just vaguely guessing which one looked more appropriate. More fool me.

[-] Aquilae@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

Nah, it's a good way to test if you're actually paying attention to the enemy or if you've zoned out

And like axont said, there's only one symbol so it doesn't matter if you can read it.

Sekiro is the best FromSoft game, that's right I said it, I like it more than Bloodborne

[-] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

I feel like this opinion isn't that unpopular, although the parry-bros and the dodge-bros will be feuding over this for a long time.

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago
[-] Aquilae@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

It also feels really good though. Way more than dodging.

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Hmm, I don’t know that I agree. I agree in cases like Bloodborne and Dark Souls where parrying stops your enemy cold and you get to do a special riposte attack. Much less in Sekiro and (to a lesser extent) Jedi: Survivor where you have to parry successfully several times in a row or you’re fucked

I prefer the dance of rolling around an enemy looking for an opening to panic mashing block and hoping I time it right

[-] SSJ2Marx@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

I'm with you. I honestly really hate the Souls series, but I like Sekiro a lot.

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I think sekiro has the best combat of the souls genre, and elden ring has the best world development. I loved how you'd be exploring the map you think is mostly completed, but then you discover a new area and it changes the size of the overworld map drastically.

[-] ryepunk@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

The fact the map continually zooms out as you explore is genius, I kept being disappointed thinking I had explored everything only to be repeatedly excited when more and more stuff appeared.

miyazaki is a bitchass mfker by making it so that you cant get extra prayer beads in NG+, like where am i supposed to find the last 3 wtf?!?!

Sekiro is an amazing game, one of my all time favorites

Beating prologue Genichiro hitless just to flex

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

I beat Bloodborne just a couple months ago, and now Sekiro is the only FromSoft soulslike I haven’t beaten. It’s just so hard cri

All the other games had different playstyles you could try if what you were doing wasn’t working, Sekiro it’s “learn to parry or die”

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

The immortal training guy was key for me getting it to "click" I kept practicing until I could do every exercise three times in a row without messing up or getting hit, after that I've never died to a boss more than six times

[-] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

The immortal training guy is great for learning against swordsmen, but unfortunately it does nothing for figuring out spearmen, axedudes, or any other weapon wielder.

[-] peppersky@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

I feel that. I think I know how I am supposed to play Sekiro, I just can't seem to do it.

[-] charlie@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

different playstyles you could try if what you were doing wasn’t working

If you haven’t played AC6 that’s my favorite part about it!

[-] blakeus12@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

this is gonna be me after jevil i swear

[-] MineDayOff@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

I keep getting pretty far in bloodborne, then I have to stop playing for long periods of time due to life happening. Then I'm afraid to get back into it because it's escalated to such Olympian Heights in the game that I know I'm just going to get owned. These games are legendary though

[-] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Any good strategy for the guardian ape? That bossed wrecked me so hard, and then I saw there was another boss fight with two of them, that I gave up.

monke-return angery

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Keep a medium distance from him (far enough from his reach but not far enough that you can't reach him in under two seconds), wait until he does one of his jump attacks and rush him as soon as he lands, use firecrackers to stun him and then hit as many times as you can get away with, then regain your distance and wait for him to jump and land again

Jump to avoid his grab attacks, it's telegraphed by the red kanji sign popping up

In his second phase he has three unblockables; The scream (run away as soon as you see him setting it up), his jump attack (pretty much the same thing from his first phase, except don't rush him, the name of phase two is parry, parry, parry, his sword is your friend) And finally the swipe attack, just jump as soon as you see the red sign

In phase two you want to parry him until one move where he stands tall and rises his sword way up in the air and smashes it down, don't get intimidated it's very easy to parry (click the parry button as soon as you see the sword start to descend) and when you do, it stuns him and takes a chunk of his posture, as soon as he's stunned in front of you try to use the loaded spear and hit him in his severed neck, it does incredible posture damage.....after that continue dodging his unblockables until he gets in a parrying mood again and brings out that crucial sword rise attack

I literally just beat the two ape guardians an hour ago for the first time, just use the second phase tips from the first ape guardian, they're identical, but when he brings in his friend concentrate on the brown ape, to do so you have to hit the headless ape once to trigger his scream, run in there and tap the headless ape and then make some distance from the scream, while the headless ape is busy screaming the brown ape will chase you, before he reaches you spam the firecrackers, it stuns him hard, then mash the attack button and get as many hits in as possible before the headless ape recovers from his scream and reaches you, rinse and repeat around three times to kill the second ape and finish off the headless ape the same way you did the first time

I’m replaying it now and it’s pissing me off how badly I’ve gotten the timing down after not having played it for months. I still beat the bosses first try with minimal to zero flaks used but whenever I get a deflection wrong that I know I should have gotten right it just bothers me. I’m good at bosses but mini bosses and standard enemies really test my abilities and I think that’s a good thing because it makes the play through more challenging but also more frustrating. I also blame the fact I’m playing on a console with a tv so there’s slight input lag compared to PC
