The Nazi regime was just the Antebellum South with German characteristics CMV

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 10 points 7 months ago

Nazis sent a delegation to the US to investigate segregation. They concluded that segregation was too extreme and would not be accepted by Germans.

America was too racist for the Nazis.

...I'm going to start calling nazi bullshit "Jim Crow with German Characteristics" and see how long it takes an Amerikan peckerwood to get huffy with me

You know it's funny, I do a job where I calculate values of business related numbers for various timeframes in excel all day and I'm so uncomfortable with this fucking number than when it's like, for example "between 5pm-7:30pm we did 148.8 units of work" I'll be like "hmmm, surely management would actually like to know what was happening from 4:30pm-5pm also. Uh, between 4:30pm-7:30pm we did 167.2 units of work. Yeah much better."

It doesn't happen every day, but like a couple times a year a calculation randomly comes out to this and I can't fuckin abide it

Same when I'm gaming, do a lot of factory games as 1488 is a fairly composite numbers so when I'm counting up inputs and outputs it pops up every now and then. Always do a small redesign. It's too bad 1917 is almost prime so I never see it sadness

Ugh

Even if it was unintended, just fucking round up

$12 isn't going to break your business, Mr. HVAC

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 16 points 7 months ago

Actually 1488 happens to be a completely calculated discount optimizing a balance between consumer savings and profit

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 10 points 7 months ago

I hate to be that guy, but what are the chances this was some accounting quark? Like that was the most they could offer off while still making a decent profit on the service, and it just happened to be the Nazi number?

I'm not denying there's a lot of white supremacist small business Kulaks in the US, but I think most of them lack the cleverness to be this subtle. There's a racist mechanic in my town and he doesn't bother with subtle signaling like that, he just posts a bunch of off brand MAGA signs outside of his business.

[-] d_cagno@hexbear.net 9 points 7 months ago

I've seen a small business where the owner was Chinese add eighty-eight cents to every price, I figured it was just an "eight is a lucky number, especially for money" thing. The fact that there are so many other 8's here makes me wonder if it's something like that.

I would honestly find it more hitler-detector if it was JUST 1488 and all the other prices were normal.

[-] Sons_of_Ferrix@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

FYI a lot of retails use the cents after the dollar amount as an inventory code, like .00 means closeout, and something like .59 means the product is from an outside vendor. There's guides online for this for like Walmart and Costco so you know if the product you're buying is going to be there next month. So idk maybe .88 is some kind of code.

I don't think the American Right is at the point now they need to rely on secret wink-and-nod codes, they can be pretty overt. American Nazis just get the Swastika tattooed right on their forehead.

I could go both ways with this case. A few months ago I bought some random items from a store and it came to a 14.88 euro total so this number can definitely come randomly but like it's definitely a bit weird to give exactly a $1488 discount, why not round it up to $1500?

[-] insufferableninja 9 points 7 months ago

what is the significance of 1488?

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 27 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

The 14 words, a neo-Nazi slogan - we must secure a future for our large hwhite sons and nephews (or something to that effect)

88 - The 8th letter is H so it stands for "heil Hitler".

[-] insufferableninja 2 points 7 months ago

fuckin sneaky nazis, man

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Kinda yeah. Less so than the kraut or Italian kind because capitalist hyperindividualism has been so heavily fried into American brains that the necessary mass political action needed to cause political transformation is as of this moment pretty fucking improbable. Something that cuts all ways on the political spectrum as the concept of "mass action" to the American population is fucking pulling the vote lever.

It just means a lot of the enemy's actions are going to be deprived from individualistic acts of violent political terror with the hopes of inspiring more copycat actions. Akin to trying to cause a bacterial plague.

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 4 points 7 months ago

Ok, but what if you put up these advertisements to find a bunch of chuds and then put tuna in their newly installed AC unit?

[-] ChaoticNeutralCzech@lemmy.one 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I hope they have the decency to sell reversible AC units (double as heat pumps with just a few basic components extra) and don't overestimate their customers' heating power requirements (a 10kW heat pump can replace a 30kW furnace, it will just run a higher percentage of the time - heating used to be grossly overscaled because high-power furnaces were cheap).
