Watch it get bombed because “hamas”

[-] PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee 62 points 3 months ago

That'll be a US military post, and Netenyahu is already on Planck thin ice with the Biden Admin for how much shit this war has put him in stateside, I would not underestimate at all the possibility of a cold war style "incident" sweeping a more compliant Israeli government in if Bibi tried something as spectacularly stupid as to openly attack US military personnel

[-] CptEnder@lemmy.world 32 points 3 months ago

I think /c/NCD would implode if IDF attacked a US Navy port lmao. The countless Abrams vs Merkava memes alone would crash their instance.

[-] Zstom6IP@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

noncredibledefense is on lemmyworld?

[-] CommunityLinkFixer@lemmings.world 7 points 3 months ago

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !noncredibledefense@sh.itjust.works

[-] cmbabul@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

I’m not saying this will happen or is the plan, but within 5 minutes of hearing this news I thought, “what if someone claiming to be Hamas attacked this port?”

I really hope the last ten years has just ruined me and caused me to only expect the worst

[-] PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago

Probably the US would seize the controls from Israel and actually fight like it's a war instead of a genocide to replace Hamas with Fatah

Or maybe Gaza will become yet another attempt by the US to establish an Arab democracy over all the other Arab states doing everything possible to sabotage the effort to avoid such notions spreading to their borders as well.

Shit Syria alone will be doing it because they think the problem with Israel's Euphrates to Nile plan is that they wouldn't be the ones in charge of it.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@kbin.social -1 points 3 months ago

yet another attempt by the US to establish an Arab democracy over all the other Arab states doing everything possible to sabotage the effort to avoid such notions spreading to their borders as well.

Okay I'm not a fan of the modern Arab states but if you think US attempts to establish "Democracy" in the Middle Easts were anything more than fools errands doomed to failure you have some history to read.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

Oh they won't kill anyone at the post. They'll wait until they're leaving with the food aid they've been given and then kill them.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Didnt Israel hit a US ship with a missile in one of their Egypt wars?

[-] bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yep, and absolutely no real repercussions resulted

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

It's not going to be a US Naval Base. There's no way to do without at least Marines and SPs on the ground and Biden already said no boots on the ground. My money is the Navy dropping it and leaving it

[-] BlitzoTheOisSilent@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

Wouldn't be out of character for them.

See: The USS Liberty Incident

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 41 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I always think people give the US too much credit when they're like "we could end this with a phone call" because things are complex and the US isn't like omnipotent.

And then we just announce we're inventing a new port and fuck you we're using it.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 14 points 3 months ago

I mean that's not easy either honestly. We dont have "fold up" ports that can handle cargo ships, which is looking like what we need. Its going to take time to get this working.

What we do have though is a stunning amount of logistical expertise in war zones and more cargo planes than fucking god. We sure as shit can be doing no stop aid drops the entire time this port is being built, and we should be.

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

True, but our 300 or so c130s can’t fly international from the US straight to the Middle East. Granted there’s plenty of US airbases that are closer, but Air drops are likely to come from a naval operation as much as an air operation. Get a fleet positioned defensively with an aircraft carrier that supports something like the C2-A greyhound and then create a constant supply line for air drops while the fleet defends creation of a militarized seaport.

In the meantime, support more airdrops through https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muwaffaq_Salti_Air_Base which I think is the best route for immediate and steady aid. It requires multiple cargo trips to get there and then to Gaza but then now we’re getting into Israel claiming Jordan is “providing support to their enemy”

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 months ago

I love how these plans still involve leaving bases from other countries when our veeeeery good ally Israel is literally right there. That we need to take these extraordinary measures rather than just say "ok, time for you to pay up for all the money and diplomatic protection" is embarrassing.

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Well yeah of course the US wouldn’t do that, we’re already trying to build a military base in Israel. The US is absolutely complicit in what’s going on.

https://theintercept.com/2023/10/27/secret-military-base-israel-gaza-site-512/

I’m in no way claiming that the solution shouldn’t just be an entire UN economic sanction against them, them being declared as war criminals, and then UN peacekeeping forces moving in whether they like it or not (which includes the removal of any US troops that aren’t part of the UN Peacekeeping force). But that’s clearly not going to happen, so my comment was explicitly about logistically how to get supplies to people who need them.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

I don't know about the the last part. Biden promised no US boots on the ground. I think the expectation may be for other countries to use it.

[-] Orbituary@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Apparently there are already boots on the ground unofficially. Saw it somewhere here on lemmy the other day.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The closest any troops are is the postage stamp sized base in Israel. Nobody but the CIA can account for what SOG is doing.

Thank God Biden is actually doing something humane about this. It's infuriating Trump keeps talking about wanting to kill all the Palestinians

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

Yeah I sincerely hope ol' Joe is done with just the talking and is actually starting the walking with this.

Inb4 Israel begins sending in tactical knife murderers to keep killing Palestinians inside the very obvious "this is a safe zone and we fucking mean it this time" that this would represent.

Netenyahu has the choice now to let it fucking go already or to torpedo US Israeli relations by attacking US military personnel.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

As though we wouldn't continue giving them unconditional support even if they did attack US military personnel.

I would love to be wrong because it would mean Biden would stop supporting Netanyahu's genocide.

"Look, we don't actually mind the port, but we need the security of knowing Gazans have to walk over a rickety bridge with trap doors trying to avoid being eaten by crocodiles and sharks with friggin laserbeams."

Netenyahu, probably.

[-] Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 13 points 3 months ago

20 bucks says Israel uses cluster munitions to hit the beach around the temporary port.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

That's a weird spelling of stampede.

[-] JustUseMint@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Fuck yeah beach landings

[-] ReiRose@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago
[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Normandy Beach is still littered with Mulberry harbour chunks

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

There's thousands of trucks filled with food on the border. How about uhhhhh

Sea deliveries from Greece?

The port will take "a number of weeks" to set up, officials have said, and will be able to receive large ships carrying food, water, medicine and temporary shelters. Initial shipments will arrive via Cyprus, where Israeli security inspections will take place.

So Biden is waiting a few more weeks so everyone in Gaza can starve to death first.

[-] prole@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Lol this has to be satire. Yeah dude Biden is not only directly in charge of these aid deliveries, but he's also personally holding up the trucks so he can delay it for a few more weeks.

Get a fucking grip.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 8 points 3 months ago

What if I told you they're going to continue with trucks and air drops and add the port too

Everyone at the side of the water....hmmm doesn't sound like a final solution style genocide. But it does remind me of a magical book with a guy who can fly into burning bushes, walk on wet feet, and get drunk on water. I think he is supposed to teach them how to fish while walking next to water walls or something.
