Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“I’m aspirationally Jewish,” Musk said. “So I was like, ‘What are people talking about with this antisemitism?’ Because I never hear it at dinner conversations."

Elon Musk said he is "Jewish by association" during a conversation with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro after a visit to the former Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland.

Musk, the Tesla CEO and owner of social media platform X, made the comments during a conference on antisemitism organized by the European Jewish Association. The association had arranged for Musk to make a private visit to Auschwitz, where an estimated 1.1 million Jewish people were killed during the Holocaust.

"I must admit to being somewhat frankly naive about this. In the circles that I move, I see almost no antisemitism. ... Two-thirds of my friends are Jewish," the billionaire tech mogul said in a video posted on YouTube by Bloomberg Technology. "I have twice as many Jewish friends as non-Jewish friends. I’m like Jewish by association."

  • goes to auschwitz
  • talks about himself

He clearly learned nothing.

[–] Num10ck@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago (3 children)

reminds me of when Justin Bieber went to visit Anne Franks place.

[–] ChrisLicht@lemm.ee 47 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 49 points 2 years ago

Difference is a 19 year old and a 51yr old.

I expect student shit from a teenager. Someone Musks age? Jesus.

[–] boywar3@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Its my understanding that it was more of a "holy shit, she was the same age as many of my fans" statement.

[–] Mek@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

As someone else noted, Bieber was young and naive. I don't think he said it to boost his ego; rather, it was just a poor choice of words. Now, Musk, on the other hand...

"No, no, he clearly said Jew-ish!" - George Santos

"I must admit to being somewhat frankly naive about this."

Could have just stopped there, Elon. 😒

He thinks because he's got a single Ben Shapiro, he's got "twice as many Jewish friends" because all his other "friends" have zero Jewish friends.

I would say "That's not how that math works out" but math has clearly never been his strong suit.

I'm a Jew and I have yet to meet another Jew who has any respect whatsoever for Ben Shapiro.

And, "some of my best friends are Jews/Blacks/Gays/etc." is the oldest line in the bigot book.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And, “some of my best friends are Jews/Blacks/Gays/etc.” is the oldest line in the bigot book.

I didn't say as much because I kind of thought that was a given. Dude's not even trying. Most half-ass transparent shit ever.

[–] Spiralvortexisalie@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Actually I read this all the other way, like he was trying to suggest something by being one of richest in the world he was “jew-ish” and that two thirds of this rich person’s friends are Jewish.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

I second all of this.

[–] holycrap@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

And, "some of my best friends are Jews/Blacks/Gays/etc." is the oldest line in the bigot book.

"I'm not racist because, you see. My cat is black."

That's how this line reads to me anyway.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 43 points 2 years ago

Eye rolls can give you headaches

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago

This asshat. Continues his apology tour, and with Ben Shapiro??? of all people. Get bent Elon, you out of touch blowhard.

[–] AnonTwo@kbin.social 31 points 2 years ago

Is there any "I'm not racist/prejudice" card he didn't use in that statement?

Part X
Watched tragedy (not really)
Not hearing it from anyone
Friends are X
X by association

He Reuters retweeted some antisemitic shit and got called out and lost advertisers. This is literally a thinly veiled and comically tone deaf PR piece.

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 years ago

Jesus Christ could this guy get any less likeable? He went to Auschwitz because he didn't hear any anti-semitism at the dinner table? The fuck are you even talking about, dude??

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

"Almost" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

[–] Llewellyn@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Do not devaluate magnitude of that word. Elon is simply idiot and jerk without any empathy, but overinflated ego.

Whenever I think he can't dig the well of douchebaggery any deeper, he grabs a shovel and proves me wrong.

[–] mindlight@lemm.ee 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There always at least one duchebag in every group.

If you don't know who in your group that is the duchebag it's probably you who is the duchebag.

[–] candybrie@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Not really. Usually actually kind people don't tolerate being in a group with a douchebag. And douchebags often like hanging out together because they're less likely to have their douchebaggery pointed out to them.

Where does this rank on the, "George Santos scale of Jew-ish-ness"?

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I feel he's finally losing his marbles.

[–] Llewellyn@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

He does that for quite some time already

[–] m13@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

WTF is “the Israel-Hamas war”??? Do they mean the genocide of Palestinians by Israel?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Daily reminder to Tesla and SpaceX that you're treading water, and the Shark of Inevitability is closing in. Make your moves or be chomped into tiny smithereenies.

[–] Fudoshin@feddit.uk 1 points 2 years ago

Does the Shark of Inevitability feed on those naturally or is it more of a mistaken identity thing?

It doesn't work that way. If it did so many anti Semites would try this.
