Because the scientist who coined the term didn't spend decades trying to unfuck his bad research or anything...

Alphas literally are not real.

[-] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 28 points 8 months ago

They are, though: they're what you get when you confine an animal into an unknown situation and is terrified. Reminding these guys who think themselves as 'alpha' that they share traits with a terrified little puppy frazzles their brains.

[-] qyron@sopuli.xyz 23 points 8 months ago

The alpha behavior was documented on confined animals, so it is essentially a response to stress.

Wild wolf packs are essentially family groups. Mom wolf and dad wolf start the family and set the rules, kids can either stay and live to eventually take the head of the family, which implies caring for the older, or can go out and set their own families.

Wolves are notoriously caring for their young, sick and elder and conflicts are solved not through violence but ever building bonding.

On the other hand, the implication that the environment that makes them real is effectively prison is deeply sad.

It is kinda funny that after a scientist made the mistake of anthropomorphizing a pack of wolves during his research, we found that a lot of people identifying as "alphas." Maybe the scientist just chose the wrong field.

Alpha males are so desperate to be ubermenchen, its like Neitzscheism cranked up to 11.5

I suspect alpha males feel insufficiently masculine the way trans men do, only the latter group is contending with a feminine body. The alpha males just have a bad internal guage.

As a tech geek, I tend to look at "alpha" as it is used in software. In early development, unstable, not feature complete, and unsuitable for the public.

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 8 months ago

unsuitable for the public

This definitely applies to those that identify themselves as "alphas"

Oh you're just an alpha? I'm a wumbo man, it's better than being an alpha.

[-] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 19 points 8 months ago

I'm a beta. Much closer to the final product

Is this about furries?

Don't kink shame if they like chains. ~~Kink shame them bcs they are furries.~~

[-] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

What if kink shaming is part of the kink

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

... it very probably is.

Okay, but, like, wtf is going on in this picture? Red dotty area is supposed to be his kneecap, right? But what the hell is in the center of it? It looks like an oddly drawn snout with a nostril in it. Then there's whatever that bulbous growth is to the right of the knee. Is the darker blue line the outline of his leg, or is it the green 'I've-got-really-wide-calves' line? And then what in the eye-popping-nasty-juju is the black area outlined by the teal? Is that supposed to be his upper thigh with the arm resting on it? Is it another animal clinging to him? Is that kneecap actually the head of an owl (look at the ear shape of the shiny/rubber black looking area), and the black thing going up the body clinging on?

This image is so old I had it on my mp3 player, when I was a kid. (Don't ask why, we'll both just cringe) He just has very thick legs, so he can do all the cool parkouring, I imagined him doing, while sitting in the backseat of my parents car, listening to Nightwish and Subway To Sally.

…man, this post is bringing back some memories.

Judging by the amount of crustiness on this image I'm more tempted to say it's a compression artifact. AI models don't generally apply this much JPEG and I can't think of a reason why someone would do so after the fact

[-] HatchetHaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 8 months ago

the text is compressed too.

i believe the base image is ai generated, then text is added on top, then it is lightly fried in jpeg for a nice crispy texture.

[-] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

That image is decades old, I recall it from my middle school years (right around 2000). When I saw it I recognised it immediately and another user also noted they recognise it so I don't think we're mistaken.

[-] TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

Isn't it funny how collectively we have become so used to ai pics already that we are seeing ai where ai could not be?

Late 90's/early 2000's were some crazy times! Wish I could do back and experience it all again!

[-] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 2 points 8 months ago

nvm you might be right

[-] Gonzako@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I feel it's his tail wrapping over the knee and he's resting his hand on it

[-] PopMyCop@iusearchlinux.fyi 4 points 8 months ago

Maybe... But that's a long freaking tail.

[-] puchaczyk@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 8 months ago

That's how I see it

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago

Alf-A, huh? Are they related?

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Wait until the alpha finds the idiot collective that doesn't speak Greek and screams about being number 1. There's always dumber wolves.

[-] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 8 months ago

Trying to figure out the proportions is giving me a stroke

[-] cuchilloc@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Wdy care about the size of the wolfs dong?

[-] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 months ago

Nooo I mean like the head is almost in the middle of the torso and the arms and legs look almost AI generated

[-] cuchilloc@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah right, you even said you were stroking yourself!

[-] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 months ago

I said the image was giving me a stroke, not me! Such ridiculous accusations!

[-] Misconduct@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

This guy right here officer! Look, they're still talking about stroking it!!!

[-] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 months ago

Utter poppycock, this is taken entirely and wholly out of context!

[-] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

... Did an AI make this meme?

[-] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

It's like a meme played with the demon core and now has every type of cancer at once.
