Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person or their instance. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on. Keep on-topic

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“I hope this conviction sends a clear message that no one is above the law, no matter how famous or powerful they may be.”

Well, as long as the US has a convicted felon and known pedo as their president, this sounds hollow.

Always the ones you most suspect.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

Saw this posted by a left wing news channel on YouTube and made the mistake of reading the comments...
Of course many just like here, but so many from maga nuts etc. about how "he did this when he was left wing" etc.

Pretending to be a christian for the last year was very productive Russel. Time well spent. Looks like you will have time to find that favorite bible verse.

[–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fun fact: Russell Brand was baptised by Best Grylls in the Thames.

Knowing the water quality is the Thames...

Yeah, Bear Grylls is an Anglican, but looking at his wiki he is nowhere as weird as Brand.

[–] R3g_B4rcl4y@leminal.space 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Here's hoping his victims find some peace and satisfaction from the verdict.

Also, fuck, he has three kids (2, 6 and 8) and they're losing their papa. I gotta say, my heart goes out to them - what a fucking shame for them.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In fairness though, their papa is Russell Brand. It could be worse.

yeah, i had a nutso, narcissistic father myself, he did have no qualms about me moving out when i was 15, but i still wish i had been able to get away from him sooner, the older i get the more i see his influence on me

Can't believe that once in my naive teenage years I liked this guy. Thankfully it didn't take me long to see through his bullshit. He's a piece of shit.

[–] phuckelon@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago

A lot of us did.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm not familiar with him, what was the appeal?

[–] dog@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Back in the 2000s he kind of had a reputation as a "ladies man" who was confident, funny, and charming and who could sleep with any woman he wanted. At least, that was the perception I and many other people at the time had of him. Although even then there were real ones who seen straight through his act.

Naturally, as a teenage boy I wanted to be just like him and I looked up to him as a blueprint for how to be desirable to women. It's a good thing that after a couple of years I began to see him for what he was and is. First and foremost a predator, but also a grifter and a liar.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

What, am I the only person who always found his looks offputting? It's like he has some money and okayish starting parameters, but went through typical sleazy ‘pickup artist’ bullshit. Silk shirts and such, eugh.

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

I always found him creepy.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Earlier version of Andrew Tate?

[–] tutter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

More like Johnny Depp wannabe. Different vibes. He did end up joining the alt right circuit, but that was more the conspiracy side and through rogan. He leaned full on into the new-age-Jesus aesthetic at some point, so the fascist adjacent crystal mommy to anti-vax pipeline seemed like a layup i Imagine

So yeah, comparable but a different type of grifter

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He was anti-Church before it was cool. Also used words very quickly, but never particularly well.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago

I don't get people who gravitate towards fast talking gibberish spewers. Someone being difficult to understand doesn't make them insightful.

[–] Bonifratz@piefed.zip 17 points 2 days ago

If only he had found that passage in Isaiah

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 31 points 2 days ago
[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 days ago

He looks like the “before meth” picture to Asmongold’s “after meth”

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

very on "BRAND" with him.

[–] susieq0044@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago

There is still good news in these humorless times.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I wonder if he flipped through his bible that he never read during the verdict.

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think its weird to know Katy Perry loved and married and divorced a rapist.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it was like 4 days and she said he mostly avoided her that time. it sounds like he just wasn't ready to pretend to be married while seeking victims.

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk if that true, but it's funny enough I'll accept it.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I guess it was a little over a year, but she did say he was largely absent, and when he wasn't he was very controlling and seemed deeply insecure, she assumed about her success, but seeing his pattern of behavior as a serial rapist and sexual abuser, to me it sounds a lot more like he couldn't balance his predatory nature and behavior in a sham marriage to make him look less threatening to afford him more credibility against victims, serial rapists and abusers have been shown to be very clearly aware and willing to plan their lives around access to victims and safety from victims like seeking access to fields like medicine or education to gain access to victims, or law enforcement or religion to shield them from victims accusations.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

she obviously has horrible taste in men.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

So, you’re saying I have a shot?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

The competition is Justin Trudeau...the bar could not be lower.

and speaking about horrible taste in men....

[–] Neon_Carnivore@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Don't let your dreams be dreams, bro.

[–] Akuchimoya@startrek.website 1 points 2 days ago

Well, I mean, can you do better than Justin Trudeau?

[–] likebudda@reddthat.com 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

Well, as long as he can find the right page.

What's the old saying? "Kill them all and let God sort em out"? Personally I rather like that concept, damned be to the gods for mans justice is far more immediate and if they do have an issue then come down and make a case.

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

🎶 inside you...🎵 - Russell singing in his cell

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who is he and why should I care?

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 day ago
[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's nice. (whoever he is)

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nobody of any importance or significance. Hopefully, one day soon, everyone will be as unfamiliar with him as you are.

[–] bertlewirth@lemy.lol 3 points 2 days ago

To be fair, he hasn’t been relevant in over a decade. Probably longer

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Presumably some politician or showbusiness person. I'd go with the latter based on the picture, but who knows.

[–] phuckelon@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Maybe he can join the orange pedo cabinet?
