no, nothing has paid off yet, it’s the first time the first step has been taken. we still need to bring the dnc to heel

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

His message is simple, and the Democrats should adopt it: how can we have a trillionaire, but lack the funds to provide universal health coverage?

[–] isekaihero@ani.social 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Bernie is one of the better democrat leaders. I wish the 2016 election had been between Bernie and Carson instead of Bernie and Trump.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You mean instead of between Hilary and Trump right?

[–] isekaihero@ani.social 2 points 12 hours ago

Here I had completely forgotten about shrillary and now I'm miserable again.

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 45 points 1 day ago

Bernie is a true believer and the closest thing to a politician I trust. How he's been treated by the establishment is a great illustration of how corrupt our entire system has become, and his patience in continuing to navigate it without giving up or selling out is... Really something.

[–] alexquiniou@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

It's not the end. The real battle is only begining.

[–] raglan@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

I mostly love a bernie but I'll believe "paid off" when they actually get some real systemic changes completed. Flipping seats should be the means, not the goal.

Legend. What a real one.

The best I ever felt voting was when I voted for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary.

So many neo-liberal apologists out there for what the DNC did. I asked one why they did it anyway if "progressives" don't show up to vote. They got angry, MAGA CHUD angry.

[–] crypt0cler1c@infosec.pub 14 points 1 day ago

Oh my god. My local junior high was electric with energy. Fuck the DNC forever.

[–] Marins_Ballad@lemmy.blahaj.zone 112 points 2 days ago (5 children)

We don’t deserve him. The way the DNC treated him was abhorrent.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

If more people voted for him in primaries, he would've move DNC to the left. This is a reminder to vote in primaries.

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago

Yes, fortunately he is actually in it for the people. He doesn't seem to hold a grudge.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 29 points 2 days ago

It's not about what we do or don't deserve.

If people needed to deserve good governance before they could have it, the world would be a fascist hellhole forever.

This is about what's right or wrong. Good governance is what's right, and Bernie knows that, and that's why he fights for it whether we deserve it or not.

Bernie been fighting so hard, I hope he can retire soon and allow the mantle to go to someone decent that can do what been doing for 60 years.

Hopefully 100+ new people trying to join congress in 2028

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 51 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The only way Bernie retires is if we get off our asses and make his policies law. Otherwise he will be wagging his finger at social injustice from his death bed.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 21 points 2 days ago

Let's do it for Bernie!

bernie would have been great, I'd have loved to vote for hin.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It felt good voting for him in the 2016 primaries at least.

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean... he won but got fucked out of it. That's what the "Hilary's emails" stuff was all about, clear collusion between her and the DNC to subvert their own processes. It's interesting and important history if you're looking for a rabbithole today

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What exactly happened with that? I know he won the first couple states like Iowa and NH but then the superdelagates didn't choose him or something? But by that point I thought he was already losing in the next batch of state elections (because he was too "radical" while Hilary was the "safe" choice).

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, superdelegates negotiating a deal vs directly representing their constituencies was the core of it. Apparently she'd made prior concessions in exchange for it being "her turn" that time and the nomination was essentially decided before voting began. When things weren't working out that way the superdelegates were told how to vote and did, the arguments where she insisted on that were a highlight of the email leaks. It was a long time ago and I'm probably not the one to ask, tf even is a "superdelegate"? Sounds made up.

age 85

Not too late.

No more octogenarians in office. Any office. Please.

[–] runiq@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago

Bernie, you magnificent son of a bitch. Played the long game and won.

[–] savvie@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago

The movement that led to at least 18 progressive victories in congressional races and 42 left-wing winners down-ballot "started with a man with 1% vote and three people at his announcement" of his presidential bid in 2015, said one organizer Tuesday night as Democrats won control of the US Senate and House, a majority of governorships, and made major gains in state legislatures.

"Bernie made the path" for progressive politicians to win crucial elections, said a labor organizer based in San Francisco, referring to Sen. Bernie Sanders(I-Vt.). "This wave has been a long time coming."

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

Fuck that, he should've been elected 2 presidential cycles ago and there would be more Americans alive today. Bernie had nothing to do with any "long game" plans that saw ice murdering people in the streets.

[–] nastronot@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Love that dude

The people’s President

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I bet he feels pretty good right now. It's so nice to see him smile like that.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

And some of us still blame Hillary and DWS for not letting Bernie beat Trump in 2016.
