I want BOTH. Multi-task, you fucking performative arts major. Dems need new leadership in both chambers.

[–] criscodisco@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hakeem Jeffries doesn’t speak for us. That’s going to become very apparent to him in the coming years.

[–] el_twitto@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago

He's fucking wrong. We want the rule of law applied and the bastards that I broke it to be held accountable. We want Democrats to not have to answer to their corporate interests like the Republicans have been.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 day ago

I want justice to be done. Characterizing that as "getting even" is a sign that Jeffries isn't up to the job.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

This is fucking political malpractice, read the goddamn room, pal! Doesn't help to be paid to stay blind... This is emblematic of the need for the fight to eject huge donors and their bribe money from politics.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 134 points 2 days ago (6 children)

No, we want there to be consequences for the epstine class breaking the law. We also want to get things done on our behalf.

Jeffries needs to go.

[Copy/pasting this from another thread because it's important:]

Can we start talking about who we would like to see in those congressional leadership roles?

For starters, here are some potential names for Senate Majority Leader:

  • ~~Corry Booker~~ [Heard]
  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Jon Ossoff
  • Chris Van Hollen

And for Speaker of the House:

  • Jamie Raskin
  • Ro Khanna
  • Robert Garcia
  • Pramila Jayapal

Feel free to discuss pros and cons regarding any of them, or add more names to the lists. We need to have this conversation now.

[Edit: Added PJ by request]

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jayapal I think has the chops to make a play for Speaker to signal a meaningful change in the party. Plus it maintains the Speakership as a person of color which is Jeffries biggest argument.

Also, Cory Booker is not it. He would be the Jeffries to Chuck.

Pelosi is going. She announced in Nov 2025 she's retiring at the end of this term.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

What about her presidential run in 2028?

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

I would be surprised if she did. She'd be almost 90. I think she's smarter than that. But I have to believe that after the successes of DSA-aligned primary candidates winning the nominations and then in the general election, voters will turn out strong in the 2028 primaries to vote for a more left-leaning nominee.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago

Impeachment and accountability ARE things to get done

Now would be a great time to call your representative and tell them Hakeem Jeffries is not what we need:

https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

My script, feel free to use (or just replace Jeffries with Schumer and use for a senator call):

"I'm just calling to ask that you do not support Hakeem Jeffries as the Speaker of the incoming House. Mr. Jeffries has shown for years he is unwilling to fight for causes that are right, only what he thinks he can easily win. He cannot change the status quo and electing him speaker will sabotage the hard work voters have done.

As my representative, please support a new leader who will immediately and vehemently stop the Trump administration's unconstitutional and illegal actions and introduce legislation to help regular people, including:

(1) Immediately initiate investigations with aggressive timelines and legislation to prosecute and/or impeach corrupt officials, stop unconstitutional ICE and White House immigration killings and kidnappings, and create a strategy to actually serve justice even without the DOJ's participation, including coordinating with state AGs;

(2) Introduce federal legislation to mirror Montana's rejection of corporate and billionaire campaign funding;

(3) Introduce legislation to create Medicare for All or a similar public option for healthcare;

(4) Immediately schedule votes and draft superseding legislation regarding Trump's tariffs, the Iran war, and funding for Ukraine; and

(5) Immediately schedule votes to stop funding the Israeli government's genocide in Gaza.

Mr. Jeffries has demonstrated neither the will nor the strategic ability to implement any of the above. Please do not support Mr. Jeffries for House speaker."

I'm gonna use your script. Thanks for sharing it!

Fuckin a right I don't want to get even, I want to fucking dominate. I want them prosecuted for treason, and convicted.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 39 points 2 days ago

Already trying to wiggle out of accountability.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The two aren't mutually exclusive. "Getting things done" and "getting even" can both mean people go to fucking jail, so that future candidates will think twice about such crazed levels of corruption and weaponization of our government for political and financial gain.

[–] NEZ27@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Even if they were mutually exclusive, I doubt its the same people tasked with implementing whatever. Prosecutors won't be tasked with implementing healthcare or rolling back citizens united, etc. Probably don't even need them to end the illegal Iran War, whodathunkit.

[–] PumpkinEscobar@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

Jeffries is just fucking terrible.

I do not want to "get even" I want some GOD DAMN CONSEQUENCES for all the laws that were broken which at this point are way too numerous to list, but start with ICE's flagrant civil rights violations, MURDERS, illegal detention and treatment of immigrants AND US Citizens. Consequences for Trump sacrificing US military personnel for his bullshit Iran war so he could trade energy stocks and make money off of their deaths.

Democratic leadership is absolute shit. This wave only happened despite them and because Trump is worse, but holy shit do we need to clean house.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's not "getting even" it's protecting America from crimes against the nation! It's the same reason the legal system is supposed to do something to stop the maniac breaking into houses and assaulting people! If you don't stop him, he keeps doing it and other people also realize they can do it with impunity!

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 15 points 2 days ago
[–] daannii@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

If there aren't consequences for violating the constitution, then why should anyone follow it ?

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Wrong, assclown. We want jail time and impeachments and most of all we want JUSTICE. Release the trumpstein files!

Do both. This guy isn’t right for the job.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I cannot say what most Americans want with any certainty. So I only speak for myself.

I want accountability. I want retribution, not just justice but that as well, against those who have wronged the nation. I am probably in the minority in that I'm both bloodthirsty and moderately left of center (very left of center here in Texas).

Jeffries does not speak for what I want. And between today and the end of the next primary season where I fall back in line I'm going to make sure every person I voted for knows that. I'm already drafting letters.

Get this fucking boner out of there. The MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries is 50% responsible for the rise and re-rise of MAGA, and neither has done anything to demonstrate that they deserve a THIRD chance. Replace them both, and get someone who understands what the mission is.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

If Jeffries wasn't bought and paid for and eas instead just extremely stupid and out of touch he'd at least be right about something. It takes effort to be this incompetent.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 16 points 2 days ago

Well, getting even would be nice, too.. but yeah, actions have to have consequences.

[–] SkyNTP@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago

Part of getting things done is reigning in the massive amounts of destruction and corruption.

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Republicans have already warned that a return to law-and-order would land them in prison. The crimes they committed are egregious. Prove them right on this one.

It's not about "getting even". This is about serving justice and sending a message that corruption is never permitted.

[–] VoodooAardvark@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago

Do both or get fucked.

Yes, and one big thing we want done on our behalf is get even. Hold every single one of those corrupt fascist fucks accountable. To the point that they don't try it again....at least not for a few more inevitable decades.

Fuck. Every. Last. One. Of them

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 8 points 2 days ago

I'd be okay with getting even on my behalf.

[–] bitteroldcoot@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago

And the first thing that needs to be done is get rid of Jeffries!!!!!

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago

Oh yeah, I forgot this fucking clown still exists. Talk about a wet blanket...

Right on time.

Just like the last blue wave with Obama. "Time to come together, not time to blame".

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 7 points 2 days ago

Among the things Americans want done: remove the pedophiles from power

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

I've never had a greater urge to punch someone in the face.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The fuck we don’t.
