Damn, we should give more money to Antropic right away so they can prevent this /s

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

Imagine before it blackmails people Anthropic goes bankrupt

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 149 points 3 days ago (41 children)

become sentient

Absolutely not. The large language model chatbots use is not a path to sentience.

The rest of it, sure. If someone prompts it to.

Two truths and a lie.

It won't be sentient, it can only kill humanity if someone is dumb enough to plug it into a nuclear weapon system.

[–] the_flying_pig@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Surely nobody is THAT dumb? - the final words of humanity

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Well, the guy with the codes is taking advice from Grok, so it might as well be.

[–] pomp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That system is now the Internet.

And we are obviously dumb enough to A) plug it in and B) discover it has already plugged itself in despite our best efforts to contain it

[–] SpaghettiMaster@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

No one is even trying to contain it. Loads are actively trying to spread it.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey now let's be fair here, ya dont need to give it a nuke. You could just it control the firing process for employees or give it control for a forklift.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

or give it control for a forklift

Soon: Forklift driver Klaus AI

New B horror movie, attack of the AI forklifts. It's basically the same thing as the Steven King evil car movie but set in an Amazon warehouse.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 67 points 2 days ago (8 children)

I don’t understand this weird game of AI companies saying their product will do the worst thing while asking people to give more money to them. But hey, apparently it works 🤷

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Look how powerful it is. You want power right? Here’s the greatest power ever invented and it could be yours! But wait! There’s more! You could end the human race! Call now! Operators are standing by.

1.They are trying to get regulations passed to cut the competition.

Only they will have the resources to make sure their AI is secure.

Can't let anyone else run any AI.

  1. They want to pretend the AI has its own motivations and so it's not on them when it's used to blackmail or hack people/organizations.

Just unplug it bro

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 82 points 3 days ago

Hmm well now I want to invest trillions of dollars into it!

I hate this shit so much.

Back in the day, when somebody used to intimidate you with death (of you and humanity), we called him a blackmailer. Now thanks to capitalism, the role evolved into AI-company Representative!

Also I thought it was sentient for 3 years already.

Yeah yeah, stfu, it can't do any of these things. It's still just a word guesser.

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

The most socially maladapted people alive just realized a talking point that both drives up valuations and drives down expectations

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If everyone were to believe that a mob would show up and burn their data centers to the ground.

[–] Aeder@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Maybe that's what they want. Someone to save them from having to fulfill their promises while also allowing them to collect insurance on a increasingly unsound investment since datacenters now have a multi year waiting list in some places before they are allowed to be plugged into the grid.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Oh. No. Whatever shall we do.

The correct answer is nothing. Fund your own shit, Anthropic.

Typical tech capitalist propaganda, I'm sure investors are eating that shit up

If AI if going to end me, please hurry up and do so, I'm tired of this bullshit

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 38 points 3 days ago (6 children)

I was promised that the cyberpunk dystopia would at least look cool. What a letdown.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 22 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We don't even get cool robot arms or genetically engineered cat girls.

Just one more trillion bro, come on bro, it's sentient bro!

[–] canttakeitwithyou@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago

Lol these guys are such bad liars. Because look, if his AI could do that, he would purchase catastrophic insurance for his own company. Right?

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I bet the fossil fuel giants feel like absolute idiots now for not leading with “our products could endanger all life on the planet and best case probably doom Humanity to a new longer dark ages”.

[–] oppy1984 13 points 2 days ago

Our product could kill everyone, please give us money to make it better at it's job.

All marketing and advisement is good! Everything is hyped even if it's the worst thing possible. It keeps the value high 📈

Yeah when you make an ipo you have to emit confidence about your venture I guess.

[–] arotrios@kbin.earth 23 points 3 days ago

Company that built the torment nexus declares that the nexus may torment. Stock prices rose on the news.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Sure, kid. You've got a great imagination

[–] Gpennyhigh@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
