Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Is this accurate or just map projection weirdness?

That's already a whole lot of ocean to have the length of your country. I doubt double would be a good thing. And business interests would insist on turning the whole thing into transportation corridors.

It almost is an island, I believe the other side is basically "fuck you" mountains.

We should beat Chile into submission.

People in Chile eat hot dogs with mayonnaise. That is all I know about Chile.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

We must learn from their wisdom

[–] danielfm123@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

I'm from Chile, they do it

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

This person in Canada puts mayo on his hot dogs, if I can be bothered, at least. Mayo, fresh onions, sriracha sauce, maybe some ketchup depending on my mood. Oh and hot dog relish if there is any available. Chili cheese if it's a option.

[–] nastronot@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

Mayo also slaps on a corn dog.

Korea be doing stuff

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 7 hours ago

I can see the confusion when ordering a chile dog.

It's capital is Santiago, its neighbours Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. And I believe they speak Spanish. Also they have quite the coastline but it's not the largest in the world.

[–] FjordDan@lemmy.zip 20 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

I wonder what the climate would be in this scenario as results of changes ocean currents.

Freeze scandinavia to death, cheap maple syrup in the rest of Europe.

At a glance, the Gulf current would be interrupted, so Chile would be warm and wet, while anything north of Spain in Europe would get really cold, Canadian-like weather, probably also quite dry. The Mediterranean looks unaffected.

It could actually get us all the way to LEGOland, if it wasn't so stubborn.

[–] straussbelial@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

That wouldn't work. Too thin to float

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 18 points 12 hours ago

Why is Chile so selfish?

[–] gnufuu@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 hours ago

Grow up, Chile

[–] dgdft@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago
