Quit reddit, you, filthy animal!
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
There's not nearly enough sports discussion here for that. None of you Linux nerds talk about football/baseball/hockey. (Or Magic, for that matter.)
There might be more sports discourse if you participated in it you know.
In a literal sense sure, but not in a way that matters. As an example: The New England Patriots subreddit has 900k subs. It has dozens of posts made in the last 24 hours, with anywhere between 5 and 200 comments on each. The largest Patriots community here, patriots@lemmy.ml, has 338 subs and literally no activity in the last 9 months. Five weeks into the season!
That's not a problem that can be fixed by one person's can-do attitude, that's a problem of scale. Lemmy needs to grow 100 times over to even approach that kind of experience.
Now, I don't think lemmy needs to feel like reddit. But I also think it's small-minded to be like "just stop using reddit" as if there were viable alternatives.
I remember back before there was enough football fans to even justify team specific subs on reddit. It didn't happen by magic. More people kept talking, that attracted more people, and so on.
The point being that no community has ever grown without participation. If you want more people talking about football you got to actually talk about football. I don't know if I've ever seen you in the NFL community. There was a game thread just a few days ago, you could have talked about the Patriots in that thread. They were playing.
Though I do agree the propensity of people on the fediverse who try to create little niche communities right away is a giant failing. Instead of doing it naturally and organically by making larger General communities that eventually get big enough to split off they try to create little ones right away and that fragments everything. I wish there was some way to stop that, or at least delete dead communities.
Then start talking about it, that sounds interesting, and I would genuinly love to hear about those topics, you, filthy animal.
Unfortunately my interest in the topics does not extend far enough to be the one digging through statistics and press releases. In the 1-9-90 I'm a 9.
(I am a 6 on a good day, but I don't brag about it)
You should not disclose your age on the internet, my fellow human. This place is full of creeps. In any case, I hope you may find fun and interesting things in lemmy. Also, if you want to contribute, that'd be great!
stay cool :)
Lemmy isn't enough, and that's fine.
Find you some old school internet forums. They're still out there, and it's not quite as much a "one Boomer and his 2 buddies" as you might expect.
There will still be dumbfucks who will do it happily
Identity theft 'bouta pop off crazy style in the future.
I tricked the aliexpress age verification with an image from google. I wonder if this will work here too.
I refuse to give this information outside of serious financial or governmental proceedings, where you might expect that you will have to deposit a proof of identity.
I'll rather drop every single platform requiring this then to engage with this circus. "What about the kids" my ass.
"All photos are encrypted.."
Why the Hell do you need to fucking store them? If I rejuvenate to a 12 year old?!
Just recently I had to travel to Germany by train on short notice. The German online ticket portal also wanted my ID and selfie when paying because it was an iNtErNaTiOnAl journey. I just booked it through my local country's international ticketing portal and they didn't even mention it.
I love "all photos are encrypted so your information remains private". Encrypted to whom? Private from whom? I don't want you to have it! I'm more worried about you then the guy at the coffee shop. He can already see my face!
You're going to have a hard time judging my age by a photo you can't decrypt, so don't pull that shit with me.
They remain encrypted, but also stolen, decrypted and sold. It's like schrodinger's cat, but there's no one to observe the state.
At what point do we normalize a civic duty to avoid parasitic data miners
Don't worry, your data will remain private. We'll have it, and we'll sell it, of course, but that's our right. Also, we might be hacked when some bad guy guesses our Pa$$worD, or we make an oopsie and leave the entire server open and unencrypted. But, other than that, your driver's license is safe with us.
Of course we'll also have to comply when the government wants lists of people with attitudes of anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity.
You forgot "It'll be private because we'll 'anonymize' it before we sell it"
Yah... My old (abandoned) reddit account is quite old, if you cant prove im not a child by the account being two decades old, thats a you problem. Find me in 2029 and we can talk, but until then, were going no contact.
[Updates DNS and router block list]
They forgot option 3: uninstall the app
They're counting on the vast majority of their user base being driven by FOMO.
I fear that those of us who are willing to cut ties and go elsewhere are a very small minority.
An overwhelming amount of Reddit is now just bots, insane out of control mods, and morons. Using AI to immediately ban if you try and post certain words is bullshit.
Reddit can eat shit, it’s Orange Turd loving CEO can fuck right off.
Fuck FOMO. I'm LOMO. The Love Of Missing Out.
So fucking glad they perma banned me. I don’t even want to accidentally support this bullshit by having an account. Some gifts seem to wrap themselves.
BTW, OP, unlike reddit, on lemmy you can edit your post titles :P
Is reddit dead yet?
Not yet, but I'm wondering if we'll have a new influx of users over this.
I was like "which shitass site is that supposed to be" and started reading below Reddit and started laughing, i'm already gone ha ha bye Felicia!
verification failed - our employee will arrive shortly to tug you by the dick
"Patiently waiting"
Surely some mathematician knows some magic cryptography to do age checks with zero trust and no data shared?
Zero-knowledge proofs and anonymous attestation - the problem is you still have to prove your identity and age to some trusted entity using a certificate, similar to a physical ID. But if you can get that, you can then anonymously prove your age. Assuming the verifying site trusts your issuer. Also assuming they trust you didn't borrow somebody else's device. Also assuming they don't ask for more and more proofs until they can identify you anyway.
I wonder if there would be a market for life-like heads on… like… a ventriloquist dummy type of thing…. And I very much mean for security bypassing get your filthy mind out of there.
Does anyone still male fake ids? Asking for a friend.
Wondering if there's a AI tool that can make real looking images of various ids?
I've seen some of the tools in the UK are fooled by AI generated pictures. Kind of funny to see if they end up in a database and shit starts getting regurgitated like the human centipede.
I read somewhere that some kids used an AI generated image to fool the age verification. It sounded like they just printed it out and took a selfie.
Wonder if there's a free site that can generate IDs using AI?
When they functionally banned pornography in the UK, someone made use-their-id.com which generates driving licences (for satirical entertainment purposes) of the politicians who supported mass Identity Verification.
I hear that it is apparently accepted as a driving licence on some pornography sites.
When one of those sites gets their ID-storing database hacked, I'm sure we'll find what we knew all along: Keir Starmer is a wanker.
Besides the recommendation to drop sites that demand privacy-breaching validations, seeking the legal venues is important too, else people will just lose ground as they try to avoid the issue.
Persona and other third‑party age verification providers have been cited in broader debates about the privacy and security implications of online age checks. News coverage of Reddit’s UK rollout focused on short photo retention windows and the separation of user account data from verification data, while also highlighting civil liberties concerns about expanding age restrictions online. Founders Fund's investment in Persona has been scrutinized in broader discussions of government surveillance and identity verification technologies due to its ties to Peter Thiel, the founder of data-analytics company Palantir. Song has denied operational relationships between Persona and Palantir or U.S. government agencies.
In February 2026, a security researcher discovered publicly-exposed code on an instance of Persona's verification system used by the U.S. government's Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), which revealed information about the company's verification pipeline. The discovery led to further evaluations of Persona's operations; the messaging service Discord stated that it would end its trial use of Persona for age verification in certain territories, and evaluate alternative providers and methods.
