Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Lol this is so true 😂
Men's shampoo (or any other shower product) sucks ass. It's why I started using women's everything, back at 16, waay before even starting HRT.
Still cis tho :3

I had a good laugh when I saw “Dude Wipes” is a product. That product touches my ass so I need some firm affirmation that wiping my butt won’t make me gay, I guess?

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 3 days ago (3 children)

It's sad, but some people (men) actually think that wiping their own ass will make them gay. And so they just don't. They don't wipe their ass, don't wash it in the shower. "Just running water over it is enough, scrubbing would make me gay". I've never quite understood that. Toxic masculinity is just the worst...

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I've never heard this and I've been a man my entire adult life. That doesn't sound like toxic masculinity, that sounds like that person has much more serious issues.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm chronically online and yes, this is far more common than one might think, and especially in the "Manosphere".

I've read everything ranging from dudes arguing that touching your butt makes you gay to women complaining about dudes not wiping. Yuck.

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Ewww. Should someone tell them that using the same logic means that they aren't washing other body parts, like their weiners. I would call it something more masculine but weiner sounds more appropriate in this case.

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 3 days ago

I've heard it from a couple different people over the years, and the kind of people who say dumb shit like this are pretty clearly dealing with multiple mental health issues. Usually the kind of person you can tell within 5 minutes they support Andrew Tate and watch/listen to Joe rogan

I wonder how many of them are actually gay and blame wiping their ass as a kid.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

You know, I laugh at this, but then I remember...some fucking men istg 😭
I wouldn't even be surprised

[–] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Bidets are commonplace in my country plus I do wipe my butt and I am kinda gay soooo...

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Had a kid, toddler now. I don't think we'll stop buying baby wipes ever. They're just so useful and probably 10x cheaper than stupidly-marketed ones. Although I am finally going to install a bidet soon.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 days ago

I call them insecurity wipes.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago

That brand also makes "Little Dude Wipes," so big beefy manly men can teach their boys how to be big strong manly beefy hunky men, too, when wiping their shitty ass. They're also double the price of standard store brand baby wipes for less wipes per package.

[–] L7HM77@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

Apparently there's pumpkin spice flavored dude wipes now. Do with that what you will. Mixed messaging if you ask me.

A real mans ~~shampoo~~ cleaning solution!

I'm kidding don't try this at home; your eyes will burn like crazy, inhale it and it will feel like your lungs are on fire making cigarettes feel like a child's game, get it your nose and you won't smell anything for a day, enough exposure on your hands and they will shake--permanently. Cleans real good though. Non of that 99.99% kills bacteria bullshit, it's a tactical nuke.

I saw a photo of a shampoo bottle from the US once. Apparently the shampoo was tactical. I have been trying to figure out what that means.

[–] Edge004@lemmy.zip 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Usually, that means it's marketed towards insecure men. The lifted truck type of people

And if you read the ingredients, they're the very same things, just with different synthetic color and aroma. Oh, and different prices, of course.

[–] GianBarGian@feddit.it 7 points 3 days ago

Yah honestly this post just confirm that marketing does work indeed.

Sandlewood... Why do they think we want to smell like driftwood. Are we trying to attract carpenter ants?

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Fuck ya, I want to smell like a nuclear reactor.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Control Rod Freeze or Infinite Uranium Fuel Rod Blast?

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Uranium Fuel Rod Blast for sure.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Good choice. You can tell it's potent because you can taste it as soon as you open the bottle.

[–] Hundun@beehaw.org 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nah, I'd rate the scent 3.5/10 - not good, not terrible

"Military Grade" - all hair falls out. Yep it works.

[–] python@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

huh, different strokes for different folks i guess. Women's hygiene stuff is fine, but I don't really like how weak it is. My current lime/hibiscus flower or whatever flavored shower gel might smell nice, but it wears off within like an hour and I smell sweaty and gross again. But whenever I steal my husband's generic ⚡blue⚡ shower gel it lasts an entire day (even if I feel like a middle school boy's locker room). Same with deodorant. My husband got me my own Old Spice stick because I kept stealing his.

Oh man I love this so much BC its true.

Feminine products are amazing, smell GREAT, and thw packaging is visually more pleasing to look at.

Men's stuff is just... Bland. Smells like chemicals or generic "nature" scents. And ths packing is just monochromatic n bORING.

The only thing that bothers me about fem products is the girl tax/pink tax. Shaving products come to mind.

But otherwise fem products are great~~

I only buy womens shampoos and conditioner, because after a hiatus i have been growing out my hair again (already below the shoulders), and womens hair care products are in my experience a lot more viable for taking care of long hair. While they were short, i did not give much of a fuck.

I do like some male-branded shower gels tho, especially the ones with an ice effect - it just feels really nice on the skin for me, and they smell fine.

Regarding shaving i have gone back to the roots. I did get myself a safety razor, because these multiblade things were destroying my skin and it is a lot cheaper too. Only took a few shavings (and about 5ml of blood lol) to get the hang of it, similar to learning how to shave in the first place. Women, if my face is finally happy after years of torture, then these things are probably fine for you too, even when there's no marketing for it at all!

This is objectively bad shampoo. I can't even wash my car with it

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago

I fueled it into my tractor and it started sweating

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Realizing that almost all my bathroom products are ungendered. It's a good feeling.

[–] gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

it's true :3 i still prefer to use the men's shampoo (without perfume) because they make my hair straw-y, and i like that. :)
